Juveniles:
Under 17s: On Sunday afternoon our Under 17s took on Clontibret in the Division 2 Championship Final in Drumhowan, where unfortunately they were beaten on a scoreline of 2-06 to 0-08. In what was a slow first half of football, scores were hard to come by for both sides. This was largely due to the disciplined defences deployed by both teams and the testing windy conditions. Clontibret opened the scoring in the game, which was followed by a leveller from the left boot of Callum Hughes to open our account. Clontibret then rushed into a 0-03 0-01 lead, which remained the score
for the next 15 minutes until Christopher Geoghegan opened his account with a point from play after 21 minutes. However, this was to be our last score of the half, and Clontibret pushed their lead out to three and went into the break up on a scoreline of 0-05 to 0-02. To the credit of the Aughnamullen boys they came out flying in the second half and got off to the perfect start with a brilliant point from Dylan Bannigan to immediately cut the gap to two. Clontibret did respond with a point of their own, however it was to be all Aughnamullen for the next quarter of the game, with frees from Sean Murtagh and Christopher Geoghegan and a score from play from Patrick Lambe without reply bringing it back to a level game with under ten minutes to play. A red card for Clontibret unfortunately wasn’t enough to push the boys over the line, and two late goals for Clontibret left it too much to do in the end. A late Chris Geoghegan point was just a consolation as the full time whistle blew and the boys fell short on the day. This was still a great year for the team reaching the Championship Final, where signs of improvement were evident. On behalf of the club we would like to thank the players and management team of Philip Lambe, Colin Clerkin, Francie Ward and Sean Sheridan and first aid Rosemary Johnston for all your efforts all year.
