Castleblayney Faughs Club Notes 07.09.2023

By Mary McEneaney Tue 3rd Oct

Our senior men take a break in the IFC with our final round robin group game next weekend against  Monaghan Harps.
The Faughs Senior Ladies booked themselves into their first ever Intermediate semi final after a hard fought win over Brigid O’Neills. The girls will now face Latton in the semi final in Castleblayney on Sunday the 10th at 4pm.

The girls would also like to thank Aine & Brian McGuigan (Crafty & Crafty Owl) for their support in sponsoring new training tops.
Get out and support the girls.

U15 had a mixed bag this week.

On Thursday the Div1 team travelled in Truagh for their second round game. The game was close throughout but Truagh got a goal midway through the second half that had them in front for the first time. Blayney threw everything at it and came very close on a number of occasions but Truagh hung on for a 2 point victory. Speedy Recovery to Harry McQuillan who was injured in the game.
On Friday the Div5 team returned to action and came away with a solid victory over Donaghmoyne. In a cagey first half, there was little between the teams but Blayney opened up in second half playing some very quick direct football while keeping a clean sheet at the other end and they ran out winners at the final whistle to progress to the knock out stages.

Our U14 girls had a fabulous win over Donaghmoyne in a hard fought battle in Ballybay in the Division 1 League Final. The girls played brilliantly all year and ended up topping the group and played a well organised Donaghmoyne team in the Final. Congratulations to the girls on all their work and commitment over the years, they fully deserved the victory. Also massive congratulations to the Mgt. team of all the U14 girls Cara, Catherine, Brian, John, Eddie, Tom, Dermot & Ozzie
U13 Boys Division 1 Championship – An excellent performance from the boys in this well contested semi final against league champions Donaghmoyne. The boys started the game really well with two early goals and never looked back. Some fantastic play and teamwork lead to a great win 6-10 to 1-11. The boys can look forward to the championship final with time and date to TBC.
U12 Girls: The B team travelled to Inniskeen on Friday to play in a play-off in Div 4. The girls got off to a bright start and never let the lead slip. In a spirited and determined performance, they produced some of the best football they have played all year. It looks like the girls will face Carrick in the league semi final. Date and time to be confirmed. Training continues for all the girls on Monday evening 6-7:15.
Good Luck to a lot of our juvenile members who are travelling to Carlow this weekend for Community Games National Finals.
The County Final of Scór Sinsir will take place in Tullycorbet Community Centre at 7pm on Friday 22nd September 2023. The table quiz event will take place Thursday 21st September time and date to be confirmed.
