Doohamlet Club Notes 24.08.2023

Doohamlet G.F.C. Results: Our U-17 team played Rockcorry on Friday the 18th of August in St. Mary’s Park Castleblayney in the Final of the Foxhound Travel U-17 Division 3B League Cup Final.  There was great support for both teams in what were terrible playing conditions with heavy rain and wind It was Rockcorry who opened up the scoring with three points in succession however a well-taken point from Vinnie Mc Manus puts Doohamlet on the scoreboard, minutes later Doohamlet was awarded a penalty and Mattie Duffy confidently steps up to the mark and strikes the back of the net, putting Doohamlet ahead by a point.  Our keeper Jamie Casey makes a great save, however, Rockcorry scores a further three points to take them ahead once again.  Mattie Duffy converts a free for Doohamlet but a goal on the other side sees us trail at half-time by four points with the score at half-time Doohamlet 1-2 Rockcorry 1-6.  Rockcorry opens the scoring in the second half with two points in succession.  Doohamlet is awarded their second penalty and Mattie Duffy converts his second of the day bringing just three points between the sides, Cian Mc Kenna hits a point for Doohamlet and in the thirty-first minute, he scores his second point of the evening leaving only a point between the sides.  Doohamlet pushed hard in the dying minutes to secure a score and came close on a couple of occasions but in such wet conditions and time running out, they came away defeated by a point.  The final score of the evening was Doohamlet 2-4 Rockcorry 1-8.  huge congratulations to the team on putting on a good performance in such wet conditions and well done to the management on bringing them to the final.  Congratulations to Rockcorry on their win Team: Jamie Casey (Captain), Danny Mc Manus, Pádraig Duffy, Tim ByrneFionán Markey, Daniel Coleman, Mattie Duffy (2-1) Donnchádh Smyth, Ryan Ward, Nathan Smyth, Daragh Mc Bride, Vinnie Mc Manus (0-1) Cian Mc Kenna (0-2) Hayden O Neill, Ciarán Carragher, Phillip Ryan, Evan Nidesh, Ben Mc Garrell. 

Doohamlet G.F.C. Senior team played Monaghan Harps in the second round of the Mc Elvaney Waste & Recycling Intermediate Football Championship on Sunday afternoon in Gavan Duffy Park, Monaghan. Monaghan Harps opened up the scoring in the first half with a goal in the opening minute. Doohamlets Barry Mc Bennett scores two points in succession, Harps scored a further two points and Barry Mc Bennett hits another point over the bar Harps scores three in succession stretching their lead but a well-placed goal by Hugh Mc Ginn takes us back into the game.  Jack Elroy replaces Mark Burns. Harps goes on to score a further three points leaving us playing catch up going into the second half with the score at half-time Doohamlet 1-3 Monaghan Harps 1-8.  Doohamlets Captain Barry Mc Bennett opens up the scoring in the second half with a point.  David Mc Ginn replaces Kevin Mc Ardle and Oisin O Neill replaces Ciarán Markey. Both teams traded scores with a point from Barry Mc Ginn and Barry Mc Bennett hitting a further four points taking the score at full time to a draw. The final score was Doohamlet 1-12 Monaghan Harps 1-12.  Well done to the team and management.

Doohamlet G.F.C. Fixtures: U-15s play Rockcorry on Monday 28th of August at 7pm in Doohamlet. 

Thursday 31st of August U-15s play Emerald Sarsfields at 6.45pm in Blackhill.
