U18 League Final
A hearty congratulations to our U18 squad and management who were victorious over Óglaigh Naomh Buach on Thursday last in Drumhowan. On wet and windy evening our lads played with the weather advantage in the first period but the opposition floated their defence and scores were limited. A one point lead at the break was not going to be sufficient in the second half and this was compounded when Óglaigh Naomh pushed on to a three point advantage in the third quarter. However cometh the hour cometh the men and the teak tough Seans never gave up on their plan. They plugged away at the points and a fortuitous goal spurred them on. A very exciting closing period had the Seans in front by three and defending an onslaught on their goalmouth. They stood tall and closed out each attack until the final whistle sounded to the cheers of the travelling fans. A great success in terrible conditions against very strong opposition. The final tally of 1-10 to 0-10 signed off on the win. Thanks to Óglaigh Naomh Buach for the sporting game, Drumhowan for the facilities and John Connolly, Monaghan County Board for presenting the cup to, joint captain, Kieran Conlon. There will be no resting on the laurels as the U17 league begins on Tuesday night.
Intermediate League
Carrickmacross were the visitors on Saturday evening last in the final round of the league fixtures. Once again injuries etc left us somewhat stretched for personnel on the night. We struggled on the counterattack and Carrick rushed into a four point lead and they would hold that difference at break. On resumption after half time we succumbed to the pressure and goals were rattled in quick succession. The
visitors closed out the win and we took our medicine. We now enter the realm of the relegation battles in the next week or so. While our intermediate status is on the line it is very much in our own hands and well within our capabilities to remain in the intermediate division for next year and avoid the drop.
Senior Ladies
Well done to the ladies on a great win away to Monaghan Harps and securing a semi final spot in the reserve league.
U11’s Spring League
Well done to our U11’s who played out a terrific final game against Tyholland on Wednesday last. This rounded off their league and a great display of skill and gamesmanship was on show on the night. Congratulations to the team and management on their progress and development.
U15’s
Hard luck to our U15 squad who lost out , at home, to Eire Og in their final game of the league last Tuesday. In an exciting game the visitors had a little more in the tank to close out win despite the non stop attacks of the Seans. They now wait on the championship competition.
Matrimony
Congratulations to another two players who have sailed off into the sunset of marriage. We wish the best luck and happiness to both Shane Larkin and Darragh Freeman and their new spouses following a busy week of weddings.
