Marie for Ulster Poc fada
Marie Greenan ,recently appointed County Development Officer, who hails from the Clontibret Club will represent Monaghan on Saturday next 4th June when the Ulster Poc Fada will be held on Divis Mountain, Belfast
Age 24, she holds:2 Division 4 all Ireland medals, 6 Monaghan County Senior Championships, 1 Monaghan League 08,1 Division 2 Armagh League, Irish Shinty team ’06 and ‘07 County Player of the Year ‘06
Fionnula Carr of Down was the outright winner in last year’s event. This years event starts at 11am with presentations at 2pm in the Lamh Dearg GAC on Sarsfields Road.
County representatives in Hurling and Camogie will take part and members of the public are welcome to go along and enjoy the event and this area of natural beauty.
Ulster GAA introduced a Provincial Poc Fada over a mountain course in 2006 when the competition was held at Carn Togher, which lies close to Slaughtneil in County Derry. Down’s Grahame Clarke was successful three years running before Derry man, Ruairi Convery broke Graham’s ‘stranglehold’ on the event by winning the last two titles. Clarke having been unlucky on a couple of occasions in the National event where he has been just beaten into second place finally won an All Ireland title when he competed as a guest at last year’s event.
Divis at 478 metres (1,562ft) and Black Mountain at 390 metres (1,275ft) form the dramatic backdrop to the city of Belfast. The mountains were first open to the public in June 2005, giving the people of Belfast access to the mountains that were in private ownership for decades. The mountains offer spectacular views across Antrim, Down, Armagh Tyrone and Derry. The Mourne Mountains, Strangford and Belfast Loughs, the Castlereagh and Holywood Hills and the Sperrins are all visible, as are the coasts of England, Scotland and the Isle of Man. The venue is easily accessible and had proven to be an excellent venue for the Ulster Poc Fada.
Ulster Cancer Foundation
“With the summer approaching there will, once again, be a unique promotion of Care in the Sun at this year’s Póc Fada. Ulster GAA has teamed with Ulster Cancer Foundation to provide all participants, spectators and members of the public with free sunscreen as they make their way round the Divis Mountain”.
Best of Luck to Marie and hope she brings the trophy back to Monaghan.
We also .wish every success to all the girls sitting exams in the coming weeks.

The June Board Meeting will be held in the Westenra Hotel, Monaghan on Tuesday next 7th June @ 8pm.

Truagh
Seniors: Training continues tomorrow at 7.30pm and on Monday at 7.30pm. Attendance at training needs to improve, could everypone please make the effort to attend.
Juveniles: Juvenile training on Saturday at 11am. New players are very welcome. Gillian, Sharon and Mairead are on duty this week.
Lucky Square: Congratulations to Emma Meehan who was last weeks winner of the lucky square. All numbers for the lucky square have now been taken. Thank you to all who support.
Clothes Collection
There will be another clothes collection in St Mellans this Saturday the 4th of June at 11am. This is a great way to get rid of that clutter, old clothes, shoes, bed linen and curtains can be donated. Bags can be left in the tunnel at the turn styles.
Inniskeen
Inniskeen togged out in the Louth League last week against St Annes in Gratton Pairc. With perfect weather conditions and a perfect playing field, all looked good for the home team. Inniskeen knew they had to secure this win to remain in the running for the league cup, and this was the driving force behind the team from the word go. Excellent defence work from Aisling McGeeney and Edel Kierans meant St Annes rarely had a chance to rack up any score. Trojan work from Lisa Kindlan in the midfield left St Annes stunned in defence and Inniskeens forward line had plenty of opportunity to tot up the scores! An excellent game of camogie with tremendous team work and effort from all players meant Inniskeen walked away with a win and secured their place in fighting for the cup.
