Junior League Rd 4 & 5

A busy week of fixtures kicked off with an ‘old firm’ tie at home with neighbours Aghabog on Wednesday week last. It was a tough , rough and tumble affair with neither team flinching in the tackle. The Seans started well with early points but this hard work was nullified by an early goal from the visitors. Undeterred by this the home team continued to tag on points from Mark McGuigan and Damian Larkin. However , a lapse in concentration, and Aghabog were in for another goal. The Seansmaintained a slender lead at half time and at the restart continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Aghabog were never more than a score or two away from drawing the tie and in the closing minutes, with only 2 points separating the teams , Murt Cleerepulled off a tremendous save with a one on one with the Aghabog forward. The home team closed out the victory by 0-13 to 2-5. Job done.

 

On Sunday afternoon , there was a trip to Rockcorry for round 5 of the league. This has been a difficult place to get a result in recent times and the first half displayed all the signs that it was one of those days. Early exchanges of points gave Rockcorry the edge and at halftime as they lead by 6 points to 3 in what was a fairly mundane affair. The second half began with Rock tapping over another point and going 4 points to the good. However this triggered the motivation switch and the Seans never looked back. Damien Larkin hit 2 points in quick succession.  As they found another gear a goal chance from Adam ODriscoll which wasparried by the keeper seemed to have been missed, only to be drilled home by James Treanor who proved to be the menace in the attack that Rock found difficult to deal with  . Solid defensive play from Murt Cleere in goal, Philip Farrell and Ryan McGuinness kept the home team to a single point in the second half. The Seans finished on a score line of 1-7 to 0-7, and rounded off a fairly good week of results.

 

U-8 / U-10’s

Any parents with football boots that are in reasonable condition can make them available to any of the coaches. Boots can be very valuable as childrens feet grow so quickly so a swap system maybe possible if there is enough interest from families involved.

U-12’s

Our under 12’s have qualified for the final of the Spring League in Cloghan on Saturday  the 2ndMay. Their opponents and game time are yet to be confirmed. Members are asked to support these young players in their quest for the first silverware of the year. Well done to Peadar Mc Guiness and his officials to doing so well.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bingo 

The biggest and best Bingo continues every Monday night in the complex. The usual prizes are on offer. The big jackpot now stands at € 6400 on 45 calls. Our second jackpot is €1900 on 45 calls

The club wish to sincerely thank Ailish and Ciaran Mc Entee for their help and contribution to the Bingo on a weekly basis for the last number of years and we wish them well.

County Youth Traditional Music Sessions

Our club is honoured to be hosting the first County Youth Traditional Session in the complex on Sunday the 3rd of May from 6.30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the talents of the young traditional Irish musicians of the county. All are welcome.
