Blackhill Notes

February 17th, 2015

Host Venue: Blackhill play host to the Monaghan Ladies team as they take on reigning All-Ireland Champions Cork on Sunday 22nd February at 2pm. A large crowd is expected and stewards are asked to meet at 1pm.

Good Luck: Final preparations are being made by the new boxing sensation Anthony ‘Clyde’ Courtney who takes to the ring on Saturday evening in The Four Seasons. Anthony is representing the club in the Ballybay Pearse Brothers’ White Collar Boxing event. Best of Luck Anthony.

Weekly Draw: 1st Mary Gleeson, C’Blayney. 2nd Colette Harkin, Cavanaguilla. 3rd Kathleen Farrell, Tullycara.

Training: Tomorrow evening in Our Lady’s all weather pitch.

Referee Recruitment: Representatives from the referee recruitment committee spoke to the senior team on Friday evening last about the declining numbers of referees in the game. As we all know, the game simply can’t be played without a ref. At times regarded as a thankless job, a past referee spoke glowingly about his experiences in the post. Anyone that is interested in looking more into the possibility of taking up the whistle will receive training, full gear and fees per game. Contact any committee member to express an interest.

2015 Reserve League Structures: Having gained promotion to Division 2 for the upcoming season, we will face some unfamiliar sides this year. However, following the withdrawal of some teams from the reserve leagues, division 2 will be divided into 2 tiers. Blackhill will play in Div2B alongside Carrick, Corduff, Inniskeen, Truagh and Killany. We play each team home and away. The top team advances to the final with 2nd and 3rd place playing each other for entry to the final. Matches will commence in early March.

Sympathy: The club extends its sympathy to the White and Ward families on the recent death of Lydia White, Dundalk. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
