Drumhowan Notes

Congratulations  to our Scór na nOg Instrumental Group (Éimear and Conor Quinn, Stephen and Colm Mc Mahon and Finbarr Brennan) who became only the 2nd team from Ulster in over 40 years of Scór na nOg to regain their All Ireland Crown. On Saturday  1st March in Castlebar they overcame opposition from Cork, Offaly and Sligo. Afterwards in the Royal Theatre Castlebar they received their All Ireland Medals from President of the GAA Liam O Neill. On Sunday  the victorious team were welcomed home to Tullycorbet Community Centre. Present at the informal function from the Co. Board were Chairperson – Pádraig Sherry, Children’s Officer – John Mc Ardle, Irish and Cultural Officer Séamus Mc Elwain and secretary of the Irish and  Cultural Committee Pauline Rooney. Chairperson of the Club Martin Mc Elearney welcomed all present and congratulated all the young musicians for putting Drumhowan and Tullycorbet on the map. Chairperson of Tullycorbet Community Group John Lennon also spoke as did Pauline Grogan our Cultural Officer. Anthony Brennan also told us about the history of Scór in the area . The final words were left to the man himself and tutor of the group Mr Francis Mc Mahon who along with the famous five made it all possible. He even whispered the no 3. No pressure then!!

Also a big  mention to the Quiz team of Colm and Stephen Mc Mahon, Finbarr Brennan and Patrick Duffy who finished a credible 4th out of 28th teams. 


Season Started – While all teams are now busy back on the training grounds the Junior Bs officially started the football season on Sunday at in the Platinum Tanks Div 1B when they took on Tyholland away from. Not a great start to the campaign with a final score of Drumhowan 1 – 4 Tyholland 4 – 10 


Platinum Tanks RFL Div 1B  – Next game is on Sunday 30th March v Cremartin at home.


Eurotech JFL will commence on the 23rd March against Killanny at home. 


New B Management – as the season started on Suday last the club decided it was time to appoint management. 3 men have been appointed to the ticket. Best of luck to veterans at this stage Brendan Quinn, Pat Duffy and also newcomer Séamus Duffy. 


All Players – remember it is now compulsory  to wear a mouthguard  in all training sessions and games. If not wearing one and you suffer a dental injury you are not covered by the GAA Insurance Scheme.


Under 10/12/14  Training continues on Mondays and Thursday evenings at 7pm. There will be no training on next Monday St Patricks day.


Gerry’s Fruit and Veg U12 Spring League will commence Saturday at noon when we take on Magheracloone in Drumhowan

 

Under 10 indoor blitz – We fielded three teams in the indoor blitz in Ballybay on Saturday last. This now completes this fun and well run tournament by the co board coaching staff.

 
Coaching for our Under 6 and 8 players, where the emphasis is on having fun, will begin on Monday March 24th at 7pm indoors in Drumhowan Community Centre. New boys and girls always welcome. We would also appreciate if some parents could stay on and offer to help out.

 

 

Coaching Workshops for  U10 – 12 club coaches takes place tonight Thursday in both Patrician Carrick 7:30 – 9:30, Sean McDermotts 7:00 – 9:00. Topics covered in this workshop include: Long Term Player Pathway  (focus on ages 9-12), Warm Up activities, Games and Tactical Development and finally Technical Skill Development through the Whole Part Whole training method.

 

Level One Children’s Award in football scheduled to take place on Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th of March in Cloghan.
