Congratulations

On behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Aogan O’Fearghail who was elected the New President Elect of the GAA at the Annual Congress held last Friday 21st February. We hope your tenure as Uachtarán of Cumann Lúthchleas Gael will be enjoyable, rewarding and a successful one for the Association. Well done and best wishes for the future.

Social Night & Annual Presentations

The club’s annual social & presentation night will be held in Fitzpatrick’s tomorrow night Friday 28th February. This is always a very enjoyable occasion and no doubt this year’s social night will once again be something special as it brings us all together to honour the latest inductee into our Hall of Fame. We will also be announcing and making presentations to the senior and reserve players of the year. So folks, make sure you don’t miss out on this enjoyable occasion and make a note in your dairy for Friday 28th February and join us for an exciting and fun night.

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League

The senior team will commence their Intermediate football league with an away game against Cremartin on Sunday 23rd March and throw-in time is 4.00pm.

Closed Season

Any player planning a quick getaway or perhaps thinking of having a vacation the holiday period or closed season, where no club games will be scheduled, occurs between Wednesday 25th June to Monday 7th July.

NO Mouthguard? – NO Game!

Attention ALL players, wearing a mouthguard is now mandatory and it is the responsibility of each individual player to buy and use a mouthguard. For your information, if a player refuses to comply he can be sent-off and more importantly YOU will not be covered under the GAA Player Injury Scheme if you do not wear a gumshield.

GAA National Club Draw

The GAA National Club Draw presents a fantastic opportunity for YOU to support the club and also be in with an opportunity of winning a fantastic prize. All committee members and players are reminded to really push the tickets this week in order to sell as many books as possible to help our fund raising target. Please ensure you hand in your ticket stubs no later than Friday 28th February and in addition it is extremely important to remember that all unsold tickets must also be returned. Obviously, as all proceeds raised will be retained by the club this is a valuable fund raiser so every ticket sold will benefit the club and we would like to make the most of this excellent opportunity so please make every effort to sell to family, friends, work colleagues etc.

Club Membership

Our club membership is now due and it’s vitally important that ALL players pay membership to ensure they are covered by the GAA insurance scheme if they get injured. The annual subscription is a reasonable €20 for all adult members while all juveniles under the age of 18 costs €5 and any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €5.

Registration Night / Juvenile Membership

The club intends holding a Registration night on Thursday 6th March to allow all underage players including under 8’s, 10’s, 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and 18’s to register and pay their club membership. All players and parents will be expected to turn up and indeed any new parents and players are also very welcome to attend. It is important to remember that all juvenile players must be registered to train or play any games to be covered under the GAA insurance scheme. We will also be accepting adult membership on the night and club registrar Pat Brannigan will be present and will gladly accept your annual subscription which is €20 for all adults with all juveniles under the age of 18 costing €5 and any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €5.

Under 10 Winter League

The under 10 winter league programme is progressing really well and a large turnout of kids last Saturday morning, when we had enough players to field two teams, is certainly a testament to its success. At this level the emphasis is obviously on having fun and full participation and while all the kids are eager to enjoy themselves it’s also important that they benefit and improve their skill levels. Please be advised that there is no game this Saturday due to the community hall being double booked but it will resume the following Saturday 8th March.

Under 16 Preseason Training

The under 16 players commenced their preseason training last Sunday with a run-out around the scenic & picturesque Dartrey forest. It continues this Saturday 1st March at 11am. Parents are advised to drop players off at the entrance beside the Rockcorry National School (Opposite Hart’s) and collect players at 12.30pm. All players including under 14 are requested to attend but if for some reason you cannot make it please contact Felix Granaghan.

Underage Fixtures

Please note the starting dates for juvenile leagues: The under 12 team will commence their season on Saturday 15th March while the under 14 players will kick-start their league campaign on Saturday 22nd March. The under 16 league starts on Thursday 10th April. The under 14 team will play a challenge game against Doohamlet this Sunday. Time and venue will be confirmed by text message to all parents during the week.

Garda Vetting

ALL members of the committee and our underage coaches who have not been Garda vetted previously can you please ensure that you fill in and return a Garda Vetting Form to our youth officer Pascal Smyth or our children’s officer, Colm McCormick as soon as possible. It is vital that ALL persons i.e. coach, mentor, manager, club officials etc. has completed the relevant Garda Vetting Form.

New Referees

There will be a Training Course for New Referees in Football & Hurling on Friday 7th March from 6.30pm – 8.30pm and on Saturday 8th March from 9.00am to 1.00pm at  Cloghan. Participants must attend on both days and participants to be over 16 years old preferably. Light refreshments will be served on both days and it is hoped that each Club would send at least one new referee prepared to begin refereeing at Juvenile Level. If any club member or player is interested in taking on this important role can you please get in touch as soon as possible.

Sponsorship

We are always open to new and exciting proposals and the club are currently on the look-out to develop new sponsorship deals from local businesses or individuals. If there is anybody out there who would like to get involved with any of our underage teams or even our adult teams then please get in touch. In return, we can offer your company advertising space on our website and we would happily give you credit at any event to promote your brand. Please get in touch and don’t miss this great chance to be associated with the club.
