Seniors

Last Saturday evening Currin bowed out of the Intermediate Championship after a four point defeat to Truagh in Clontibret.Final score, 2-13 to 1-12. Injuries to key personnel in the previous weeks meant that our resources were going to be tested to the full and so it panned out. We started tentatively and allowed Truagh into a four point lead but then a super goal sparked us into life and we went in at half time justifiably level and possibly unlucky not to be in front. A quick start to the second half saw us go to into the lead, a lead which we held until an opportunist goal put Truagh in front and it proved to be enough to keep us at bay until the end. While we didn’t win the game these Currin players certainly won the respect and admiration of all supporters. It was obvious that with the resources we had we would have needed ‘the rub of the green’ if we were to come out on top. Having to play without key men, such as our captain Ciaran, broken foot, Francie, injured shoulder, and Stephen, broken arm, we responded magnificently. With Philip tormenting the Truagh defence until he too got injured in the second half and Stephen even though hampered by his injury that he recieved playing for the county, kicked a wonder point to keep us in front, it was a mammoth task for the rest of the squad but rise to the occasion they did. Led imperiously by Dick, Gerard was superb and Jack up front scoring a goal that in the words of a neutral ‘was worth the admission money alone’, the defence of Sean, Conor, Enda, Ben, Shane and Dara gave Fergal great cover throughout. Up front Niall took his point well and Paddy and Ciaran worked tirelessly throughout. However, ultimately the injuries proved just too much of an obstacle to overcome, but all concerned deserve great praise. Team and scorers:- Fergal Connolly, Sean Brady, Conor Mc Caffrey, Enda Mc Caffrey, Ben Clerkin, Paddy Mc Dermott, Gerard O Callaghan, Dick Clerkin, (0-2), Ciaran Kearns, Niall McEntee (0-1), Stephen Smith, (0-2), Philip O Callaghan (0-4,1f,),  Shane O Connor, Jack Mc Carron, (1-3), Dara Brady. Subs used, Michael Quigley for Paddy Mc Dermott, Cian North for Ciaran Kearns. Subs not used, Tommy Maguire, Johnny O Connor.

Ladies Football

There was bitter dissappointment on Sunday last when Aghabog ladies were beaten by four points in the Ulster Quarter final by Armagh team, The Grange. An Aghabog team short too many for various reasons could not overcome all the obstacles put in their way including the officials and went out to a team they would normally have beaten. Well done to all the Scotshouse contingent on the team.

Monaghan Gala Ball

There will be a Gala Dinner and Presentation for the winners of the Ulster championships this year in the Hillgrove Hotel Monaghan on Friday 15th November. Compere for the night will be Adrian Logan. This promises to be a spectacular night and our Club will be well represented. If anyone wishes to attend then tickets for this black tie event can be booked from Patricia or David. Cost €75.

The senior county team are presently fundraising by selling a limited number of special official photographs. These photos will certainly be collectors items in years to come and are available from all the panel members.

Rose Mc Garvey, R.I.P.

It was with genuine sadness that we learned of the death of Rose Mc Garvey, Killyfargy, Scotshouse, last week. Rose was predeceased by her husband James a few years ago. James was a former player and Ward Cup winner with Currin G.F.C. in the fifties. We extend our sympathy to her daughters Fiona and Carol and also to her extended family and friends.  Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.
