Doohamlet GFC Notes

Minors: Doohamlet Minors powered into a league final on Saturday last with a comprehensive victory against Blayney Faughs at St.Marys Park. Played in ideal conditions Blayney opened the scoring in the third minute and added another point to double their lead before Barry McGinn opened Doohamlets account with a pointed free. Jamie Walshe drew the sides level with a fine point after a strong run and for the remainder of the half Doohamlet dominated and goals from Barry McBennett and Ryan McManus saw us go in at half time 2-07 to 0-04 ahead.

The second half  resumed with Doohamlet on all out attack and the Blayney defence were struggling to contain Doohamlets forward play. Nathan Connolly Matthew Byrne and Pauric Malone all found the Blayney net and when Conor Marray scored a magnificent point from way out on the right wing the game was over as a contest. Credit to Blayney who battled gamely to the end and were rewarded with three goals but the result was never in doubt. Doohamlet were dominant in every position and had many fine performers but none more so than Matthew Byrne. His reading of the game and driving forward at every opportunity was a joy to watch. Great to see Matthew back to his best after being out so long with injury and no doubt we will see more of this talented player in the future.

Doohamlet now look forward to a league final meeting with St.Tiernachs.

Minor Championship Final:  All roads now lead to Scotstown on Sunday next when our young Minor team play St.Tiernachs in the Championship Final. This is a monumental task for such a small panel who face an amalgamated Clones/Eire Og side but these lads have done their club proud reaching this final and all Doohamlet folk will wish them well on their big day. Throw In 2pm in Scotstown

This game will be the curtain raiser to the Junior Final and we wish our neighbours Blackhill every success in their game.

Seniors:  Our Senior team had an early start on Sunday morning last when we travelled to Rockcorry for a senior league fixture. The early throw- in clearly had an effect on many of the players as this game was littered with mistakes and Doohamlet were seven points down midway through the second half before we woke up and salvaged a draw 0-13 each. This point guarantees Senior football next season so well done Management and Players.

Due to a Senior Championship replay on Friday evening our league game is postponed this weekend.

Breakfast Morning: Don’t forget our Breakfast morning on Sunday next after local Mass.

This will be a good chance to wish our young Minor team all the best in their final later on that day and also you can take your Clothes collection for the Hall Development committee to this event.
