Sean’s Notes

Adult team.   Our adult squad  completed their league programme last weekend and have finished in third  position in the league table with a total of 25 point, three  behind table toppers Killanny and two adrift of Blackhill in second spot. Closer examination of their position shows that they played 18 games won 10 drew 3 and lost 5, scoring 249 in the process and conceding 192 points over the course of those eighteen game. These stats can be consigned now to the record books and will count for little as they prepare for the most important game of the season a semi-final meeting with Blackhill. The Emeralds hold sway in their meetings so far with their championship victory a few weeks ago, with home advantage they will be an even tougher nut to crack this time round. Manager Adrian Larkin and everyone involved will be leaving no stone unturned to ensure they make amends for that championship reversal but more importantly will be intent on claiming a place against Killanny or Oram in the final. The semi-final is schedule for Sunday 12th October in Blackhill.

Under 8/10  Well done to all children involved in our   Under 8’s and 10’s  coaching and games programme throughout the 2013 season. They turned out in great numbers for our final series of mini games and presentation night on Friday night last. A special word of appreciation to the many parents who were present to offer encouragement to these young participants, and especially to Hugh Mc Elvaney who despite a very busy schedule was also on hand to make the presentations on behalf of Mc Elvaney Waste & Recycling: the club’s sponsor. This support is readily acknowledged and greatly valued not only by the children but also by the coaches involved in promoting the enjoyment and skills of Gaelic Games at this age level.

Coaching Course: Parents members and players (adult, minor, U16’s) wishing to become involved in coaching should note that the club are hosting a coaching evening in the complex on Tuesday 15th October commencing at 7.30pm. This session is being conducted by personnel from the County’s Coaching & Development staff and is tailored to coaches involved with the very youngest age groups, 6/ 8 year olds. As most clubs struggle to have the ratio of coaches to children right at this age level this is an ideal opportunity to pick up the basic essentials now and help your club out by becoming involved when the new season get under way. We would very much welcome parents  along to this coaching session, and no you won’t have to attend every session when the new season commences; but  the involvement of a few more adults for an hour or two a month would make a difference to the quality of the coaching that can be provided…Well at least Think about it !!!!

Cultural Night:   A reminder that  following the success of our Trad for Trócaire event last year, the club will host another on the 11th October, coinciding with our next monthly session on the 2nd Friday of the month Again, all musicians, singers & dancers are welcomed along for a super night’s entertainment. Refreshments will be served, with spot prizes galore!! And not forgetting all donations for Trócaire will be gratefully received!

Ceili Dancing.  Ceili dancing classes resumes in the Complex next Sunday evening 22nd September from 6.30- 7.30pm. Boys and girls are welcome along and encouraged to attend this hour long session which will continue over the winter months.

Bowls. With the bowling season just around the corner, regular weekly bowling sessions have also resumed in the complex on Thursday nights from 8.00 -10.30 pm. New participants are always welcome.
