Lotto

U-10’s

The last training session for the year took place on Wednesday 25^th September. Our very own county player Gavin Doogan took this training session and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all the players. A big thank you to Gavin for his time. We would also like to thank the children and parents for showing up in large numbers to training, challenges and to blitz games all year.The club would like to thank the mentors Gary  Byrne and Francis Fox and we hope they will continue their great work next year. Also thanks to Declan Mc Connon, Dermot Farrelly and to anyone else who helped out during the year it is very much appreciated. Final blitz of the year is in Clones on Saturday 28^th from 12noon to 2pm.  Could all players please be there for 11:45am.

U-11’s

On Saturday last our U11 team travelled to the Emyvale to take part in the clubs annual U11 Brendan Colton (BC) Blitz in St Oliver Plunkett Park. This was the 10th Anniversary of the BC Blitz. There was a great team of workers who ensured the smooth running of the competition and the weather was excellent for the occasion. Mentors Francis Fox & Gary Byrne  would like to thank all involved and the Colton family for a very successful and enjoyable tournament.

U-14’s

On Saturday last our under 14’s played in the Div. 1 Shield final versus an amalgamation of Clones and Currin. The game was held in Oram and we went into the game without our regular centre-back Conor McKeown who unfortunately missed the game due to injury. Clones/Currin started well, getting a goal and a point before we got off the mark through a Niall Marron free. Barry Kieran followed with two further points before a Dylan McCahey point levelled the score. Clones/Currin pulled back into the lead and scored 1-3 without reply to leave them in the lead 2-04 to 0-04 at the end of the first quarter. We started to pull back through a Ciarán McMahon goal and a point by Dylan McCahey. Clones/Currin scored two further points before a second Ciarán McMahon goal. Liam Óg Murray stopped a run of 1-1 for Clones/Currin with a goal from a free and great work by Cameron Everard and Aidan Carolan denied Clones/Currin certain scores. Barry Kieran scored another point between two Clones/Currin points before a Jack Marron free. Jack Marron left the game early with a hand injury before the teams traded scores to leave the half-time score at 3-08 to 3-08. Clones/Currin started the third quarter fast with 1-1 before a Dylan McCahey goal and a Nathan Monaghan point levelled the scores once again. Clones/Currin struck another goal despite excellent defensive work by Dylan Tuite and Daniel McConnon. Captain Conor Cassin was driving his team on from defence and before long, Niall Marron hit the top corner with a long distance effort. Matthew Kieran made some fantastic saves before Clones/Currin found the back of the net again to make the game 6-10 to 5-10 in favour of Clones/Currin entering the final quarter. Clones/Currin hit 1-1 either side of a Liam Óg score as Magheracloone rattled off 1-4 in a row through Ciarán McMahon (1-1) Dylan McCahey (0-2) and Barry Kieran (0-1) to give us a one point lead heading in to the final minute. Clones/Currin equalized from play before a harsh free-kick against Magheracloone granted them the winner. With some confusion with regards the final score, Clones/Currin were presented the trophy on a scoreline of 7-13 to 6-15 in a game which displayed all the skills of Gaelic football. Minor Championship

Magheracloone go through to the Division 1 County Final after putting in an excellent performance against Monaghan harps in Aughnamullen on Saturday last. Final Score Magheracloone 3-14 Monaghan Harps 1-14

Magheracloone knew this game would be tough and they prepared well. The game opened at a steady pace with our first four points coming from the boot of Alan Mc Cahey from frees. Alan was then hauled down in the square giving Magheracloone a penalty which Captain Paudie Kirk duly dispatched to the net. Another point, the first from play from Ciaran Mc Clory left the half time score 1.05 to 0.10

The second half saw Magheracloone take control of the game with limited fouls in the back line and their forwards moving into open  positions allowing balls to go directly in. Paudie Mc Mahon scored 1-01, the goal a clever overhead flick into the net, Sean Marron 1-0, Cian Freeman 0-1, Ciaran Mc Clory 0-1, Micheal Metzger 0-2, Paudie Kirk 1-0 and the rest of the scores were from Alan Mc Cahey. This was a determined display from all and they now will reap the reward of a final place against Carrickmacross in Clones on 13^th October. This is the first time in 60 years that this has been achieved. We wish this young team the very best. Congratulations in particular to the management team Declan Toner, Anthony Burns, John Mc Clory and Sean Fitzsimons whose belief in these young lads together with a year of dedication and enthusiasm has made all the difference to this team. Well done, keep up the good work and good luck in the final.

Minor League Semi-Final

The next fixture in the division 1 minor league is set to be played on Saturday 5th October at 1:00pm in Monaghan Harps v Monaghan Harps.

Senior Championship

Magheracloone and Monaghan Harps battled it out for the last place in the Senior Football Championship semi-finals at Páirc Grattan on Friday night last. Magheracloone, who last reached the semis two years ago and the final the previous year needed to produce a strong performance against Harps. Unfortunately this was not the case. Magheracloone trailed at times by the narrowest of margins , but they were unable to push on in the second half and the north Monaghan men did enough to stay in the Senior Football Championship race. Final Score Magheracloone 0-13 Monaghan Harps 3-10

Pitch Development

Prunty has now finished all drainage on the main field and the next step is to spread two inches of Lough Neagh sand on the entire field. The grass seed will then be sowed in the sand. Weather permitting it is hoped to get these last few steps completed in the next ten days.
