Meeting: The club’s monthly meeting for September takes place this evening (Thursday) at 8pm.

Seniors: We fell to a 2-11 to 0-10 defeat against Ballybay in the SFC in Scotstown last Sunday. Our lads started brightly with points by Nicholas Treanor, Neil McAdam, Stephen Driver, Gareth Treanor, Shane Smyth and Emmett McArdle in the opening 17 minutes, but we were then reduced to 14 men and Ballybay finished the half strongly to lead by 1-7 to 0-6. Nicholas and Gary White kicked good points to keep us in touch, but Ballybay were able to increase their lead to six, before Emmett and Fearghal McMahon closed the gap back to four. Ballybay then struck a killer blow with their second goal and our only response was a point from a free by Neil. We have been drawn to play the winners of next Sunday’s game between Doohamlet and Magheracloone in Round 3B on Friday week (September 20).

Team and scorers: Cónall McKenna; Gareth Treanor (0-1), Niall Hahessy, Shane Coyle; Rónán Garvey, Conor Galligan, Nicholas Scott; Neil McAdam (0-2, 1f), Stephen Driver (0-1); Paul Rushe, Gary White (Capt., 0-1), Emmett McArdle (0-2); Dónal Hahessy, Shane Smyth (0-1), Nicholas Treanor (0-2, 1f).

Breakfast morning: Our big breakfast morning took place last Sunday. Thanks to everyone who helped out and attended for making it a great success. Full details in next week’s notes and online.

U-14: Our Under-14 Division Five team put in a great effort in last Saturday’s league final, only to finish on the wrong side of a 9-8 to 6-11 thriller against Emerald Sarsfields. Colin Peppard (2-0) and Corey McArdle (1-2) did the scoring in the first quarter as our lads took a 3-2 to 2-2 lead, while Corey added 1-1 and Adam O’Neill, Lorcan O’Rourke and Killian Conlon hit a point each in the second period to leave the half-time score 5-4 to 4-6 in favour of the Blackhill/Oram amalgamation. A goal by Colin and points from Oisín Fagan and Seán Conway were our only scores of the third quarter, allowing a physically strong Emerald Sarsfields team to open up a lead of 8-5 to 5-8. Corey hit another goal in the final quarter and Adam, Colin and Zach Mallen all hit points, but our lads’ efforts to get back into the game were thwarted by our opponents’ goalkeeper and defenders. Well done to the players and their mentors Séamus McManus, Brendan Burns and Val Forde on a very encouraging year for this team.

Team and scorers: Brendan Óg Duffy; Seán Conway (0-1f), Aaron Coyle, Zach Mallen (Capt., 0-1); Adam O’Neill (0-2, 1f), Lorcan O’Rourke (0-1); Dylan Maguire, Corey McArdle (3-3), Colin Peppard (3-1).

Subs: Killian Conlon (0-1), Stephen Ward, Oisín Fagan (0-1f), Shane McCabe, Killian McAdam, Dáire Martin.
