Pride of place has to go to our Juveniles this week!!

U14s Div 1 It was a great few days for the U14 teams. The Division 1 team had a great semi-final win in the shield away to Scotstown to qualify for the shield final. It was the team’s best performance this year as Scotstown gave them a good hiding the last time they met. The team started with intent and were in front through out. Playing some lovely flowing football they always had enough to keep Scotstown at bay. They were 4 points up at half time but some wasteful chances in front of goal kept Scotstown in touching distance. A strong last 10 minutes made sure the team pushed home to win on a score line of 4-14 to 2-13. The Division 5 team had a great victory in the shield final against Truagh and secured the first trophy of the year. A great first quarter was the foundation of the victory after the team were quick out of the blocks scoring 5 goals. In fairness to Truagh they kept their heads up and battled strongly to the end but they could never make serious in roads to the big lead the team gained in the first quarter. There were some great individual performances with Conor Reilly, Oisin Mc Phillips and Simon O Connell holding firm in defence, Dan Connolly had a Man of the match performance in midfield and up front Tiarnan Monaghan and James Cleary had the scoring boots on. The lads were delighted as captain for the day Simon O Connell raised the cup and they enjoyed the traditional ’round the town’ parade. Final score Clones/Currin 8-12, Truagh 3-5. Seniors: following a quiet spell the last two weeks its all go for our seniors this week, they had the first of their derby games against neighbours Currin last Sunday in the league.  Clones came off second best on Sunday being well beaten on a score line of 0:08 to 1:12, hopefully both team and management can analyse where things went wrong and formulate a plan against the same opposition on Sunday coming. Team Sheet: Ciaran Morgan, Paul Connolly, Declan McQuaid, David Gibson, Eugene Holland, Micheal Treanor, Niall Nolan, Adrian Alford, Fintan Kelly, Daragh Graham, Ethan Audley, David Freeman, Sarto Quigley, Emmet McEntee, Daragh Holland. Subs used Ciaran Kelly, Cian O’Connor, Eddie Treanor and Darren Freeman.  The best of luck lads please come out and support both these games.

Minors: St. Tiarnachs have put their feet firmly into the final of the league after a commanding against Emerald Sarsfields in the semi-final of the league last Tuesday week. The score line of 6:15 to 3:08 belies the reality that this was a tight game with equal amounts of possession and credit to this Clones & Eire Og amalgamation for creating and taking some fine scores, a classy inside Eire Og forward line of Micheal Tierney and Dermot Gleeson did really well, combined with scores taken by stylish Clones half forwards Cian O’Connor, Eoin McQuaid and Micheal Morgan.  An impeccable performance in midfield by Clones duo James Mealiff and James MacElwain supplied most of the ball into these lads along with some fantastic individual runs by Mealiff which really caught the eye.  Eire Og’s James Morrow in goals was able to handle most balls that came his way and accurate kick outs too, in front of him doing well were a

Clones partnership of Kevin Reilly and Ben Daly with Eire Og’s Shane Ward, controlling things further out the filed and supporting midfield Eire Og’s James Leonard and Matthew McElvaney.  With the score at halftime St.Tiarnachs 3:08 Emerald Sarsfields 1:06 the match was in control, but Sarsfields had their chances too with a sublime display from their County star young Meegan who was almost unmarkable causing untold damage, he scored one of the finest individual goals of the season and deserves a mention, but St.Tiarnachs had too many smoking guns all over the field and introduced quality impact subs Shaun Cunningham, Tristan Reavey, Kevin Sheridan and Darek Sviridenka making their presence felt too.  They deserve to be in the final and play the winners of the postponed game between Doohamlet and Castleblaney with time and venue still to be decided.  I would encourage all of you to support this minor team, some of our current and future county stars are on this team.

Under 16’s; Our U-16s play Aughnamullen in the U16 League Final on Sunday at 1:30pm in Drumhowan. This Panel of 21 players have put in a serious effort this season training twice a week from early April. With some fantastic performances during the season we finished second in the league a single point behind our final opponents. After disappointment in the Championship semi final defeat to Inniskeen the boys re-grouped, putting in a colossal effort to win our next three games including revenge in the league semi-final against Inniskeen with brilliant displays throughout the field. The boys thoroughly deserve their place in the League Final against Aughnamullen who’ve proven they are the best team in the league so far!  We share a fierce rivalry with them and this is a cup final. All that remains now is to finish the job off and win! Good luck boys. Support has been brilliant all year and as always would be greatly appreciated by players and management.  This is a great group of players and the management of Stephen Adamson, Ady Alford and Phelim MacElwain have worked tirelessly with the players all season.  They would all appreciate your support so bring your colours and flags.  Cluain Eois Abu.

U8/10s – U8/10 missed the Latton Blitz last week as it was called off due to rain. Training continues on Wednesday evenings.

Best wishes and speedy recovery to former chairman Jimmy Connolly Analore St. who’s been in hospital this last few weeks.  Get well soon Jimmy, all your friends and clb members are looking forward to seeing you when you get home.
