Seniors: The Seniors extended their lead at the top of the Senior Football League with two victories in four days last week. They produced a strong second-half performance to defeat Monaghan Harps by 3-9 to 1-14. Rockcorry were the visitors to Páirc Mhuire on Sunday last, and in a one-sided encounter Scotstown won by 5-18 to 0-5. The next game will be Round 2A of the Championship versus Clontibret on Saturday week, September 7th at 6pm in Ballybay. The next League game will be a home fixture against Doohamlet on September 15th.
Juniors: The C team had a good win away at Toome on Saturday afternoon, 0-18 to 0-9. The starting line-up was: Cian Mohan; Adrian Carbin, Mattie McCague, David Caulfield; Emmet McCrudden, Damien F McKenna, Shane Rice; Ross McKenna, Donnacha Dolan; Mark Treanor, Mark McKenna, Paul Sherlock; Mark McDevitt, Conor Caulfield, Nessan McCrudden. The next JFL game is a home fixture against Killanny this Sunday at 12:30pm.
Minors: The county team bowed out of the All-Ireland series with defeat against Mayo on Sunday. Congratulations again to the boys on a great summer of football. The delayed Monaghan Minor Championship will begin this Tuesday, September 3rd with Scotstown away to Magheracloone in the quarter-final. The game takes place in Carrickmacross, throwing-in at 6:15pm. The winners will play Monaghan Harps. In a tight finish to Minor League Division One, results went against Scotstown and they finished fifth – just outside the semi-final places.
Under 16: The Under 16 side defeated Donaghmoyne last Thursday evening by 4-9 to 0-17. Team and scorers: Fintan Sherlock; Gary Cassidy, Ben McDevitt (0-1), Rory McCarthy; Lorcan Murray, Caolan McKenna (1-1), Jamie McKenna; Ruairi McKenna, Cillian Murphy; Shane McMahon (0-2), Oisin Sherlock, Leonard McDermott; Adrian Grew (1-0), Jamie McCarey (1-5), James Corley. Substitutes used: Jack Mohan (1-0). They were up against Clontibret away on Monday evening, but lost out by a single goal, 2-11 to 1-11. Team and scorers: Fintan Sherlock; Brian Treanor, Lorcan Murray, Alan McKenna; Conor Mohan, Rory McCarthy, Ruairi McKenna; Ben McDevitt (0-1), Cillian Murphy; Shane McMahon (0-1), Caolan McKenna, Adrian Grew (0-4); Eanna Deery, James McCague, Jack Mohan (0-1). Substitutes used: Jamie McCarey (1-4), Leonard McDermott, James Corley. They will now face recent Under-16 Championship winners St. Patrick’s (Drumhowan/Ballybay combination) in the League semi-final on Thursday, August 29th. The venue for the semi-final is Ballybay, and throw-in is at 6:30pm.
Under 14: The A team lost out to Inniskeen on Saturday last, whilst the B team defeated Monaghan Harps by six points. The B team will play the winners of Clones-Currin versus Monaghan Harps in a Division 5 play-off on Monday, September 2nd at 6:30pm in Scotstown.
Under 12: Our B team play Emyvale in the Division 3B Shield Final this Saturday, August 31st. The game takes place in Drumhowan, starting at 11:40am. The A team will play either Monaghan Harps or Magheracloone in the Division 1A Shield Final the following Saturday, September 7th.
Anti-Bullying Workshop: Ulster GAA are holding an anti-bullying workshop at Cloghan on Wednesday, September 4th from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Anyone interested in attending should contact Gary McQuaid on 086-0551835.
Ciste: The August Ciste draw takes place this Saturday night in the Complex. Tickets €7.
Development Draw: The Scotstown GAA Development Draw will take place on Saturday, October 26th. First prize is a Seat Ibiza car; second prize is a cruise; there are three cash prizes of €1000, €500 and €500 for third to fifth and sixth prize is a pair of tickets for next year’s All-Ireland Football Final. Tickets available on the Scotstown website and from club members priced at €20 each or three for €50.
