Clones

August 14th, 2013

Well done & Congratulations to the lads on the U17 County Development Squad, James Mac Elwain, James Mealiff and Eoin Mc Quaid who were on the U17 County team that played the London Minor Team on Thursday in St.Tiarnach’s Park. They secured a facile victory and we’d be hopeful that these three exceptionally talented players will continue to be represented on the county panel.

Seniors: the seniors were scheduled to have two games last week, Corduff and Aughnamullen, the Corduff match was postponed owing to the death of Terry McGorman RIP.  The Aughnamullen game on Sunday was a great match as those who were there will surely attest.  Clones started off well with points from both Adrian and Fintan in the first three minutes, the momentum continued with Clones and their hard work and relentless support play paid off with a goal from Cian O’Connor who used his extra height to full advantage following an adventurous ball in by Adrian, this was followed by frees from Dev to leave the score with sixteen minutes gone Clones 1:05 Aughnamullen 0:02.  Aughnamullen were here for a game however and started to rack up the pressure and scores kicking six unanswered points, Clones were failing to capitalise on their good start and half time couldn’t come quick enough, Half-Time score Clones 1:06 Aughnamullen 0:09.  Aughnamullen were quickest out of the blocks in the second half scoring two quick points followed by a point for Clones from the ever reliable boot of David Freeman, the game was really in the melting point now with both teams battling hard for possession, Clones began to come out on top and three fine scores from the left boot of Adrian Alford and a point at the end from his midfield partner and cousin Fintan Kelly secured a memorable win for Clones on a score line of Clones 1:11 Aughnamullen 0:12.  Team Sheet: Ciaran Morgan, Paul Connolly, Paul Shiels, Declan McQuaid. Daragh Graham. Micheal Treanor, Daragh Holland, Adrian Alford, Fintan Kelly, Cian O Connor. Danny Rooney, Ethan Audely, Sarto Quigley, Emmet McEntee, David Freeman Subs used Ciaran Kelly and Eddie Treanor.  Clones play Inniskeen in the first round of the championship this Friday in Drumhowan throw-in at 7:30, your support would be appreciated by the lads; after all nothing beats the atmosphere of a championship game.

Minors:  St. Tiarnachs have put their feet firmly into the semi finals of both the league and the championship following their comprehensive win over Killeevan last Friday night.  These fixtures haven’t been fixed as yet owing to the continued success of our county team.  This Clones, Eire Og amalgamation have been doing very well and I would encourage all of you to support this minor team, some of our current and future county stars are on this team.

Under 16’s; following on from a long layoff action starts back up again this Friday for our under 16’s in the league against Killeevan.  This team is made up of a great squad of young fellas and they deserve to do well with the work they’re putting in at training.

U14s Div 1 team played Scotstown on Tuesday night and the Div 5 played Emerald Sarsfields. Match report next week.

U12 Div 2A are through to the Shield Semi-final and will play against the Sean Mac Dermotts on Monday 19th at 7pm in Currin.

U12 Div 3B are also through to the Shield Semi-final and the play against Emyvale on Saturday 17th at 12pm in Emyvale.  Please come and support these teams on the day.

U10s – Their Blitz will be in Clontibret on Sat 24th.

U8s – The club entered two teams for the Blitz in Clontibret on Saturday, some great football was played and it’s wonderful to note that there are lots of talented footballers coming through.  ‘Mol na h’oige agus tiocfidh siad’

Sincere Sympathy: to the family of Terry McGorman who died last week.  Terry was the father of Senior Club player and referee Damian.  Ar dheis de go raibh a h’anam dilis.
