Senior football

Challenge matches against Drumalee from Cavan and our near neighbours Newtownbutler were played last week to keep things going in this time of club match uncertainty. There  is a great turnout at training, well done to all. Keep an eye on the ‘net’ for fixture changes, depending on Monaghan’s progress.

Youth Affairs

U-16’s

Our U-16 champions played the beaten finalists Doohamlet in Scotshouse last week. Unfortunately the result was reversed but a good display was again evident.

All Ireland quarter final

On Saturday next we head to Croke Park for the first All Ireland quarter final at 5.00 pm. Tyrone are our opponents and will prove to be a tough assignment. However if Monaghan can replicate their performance in the Ulster final then I believe we will be getting ready for an All Ireland semi final. The ability of this team is now proven, consistency is all that is needed now. Best of luck to Dick, Jack and Stephen.

Ladies Football

Aghabog ladies finally got their just rewards in the Intermediate final played against Donaghmoyne in Drumhowan last Sunday. In the first half against a fairly stiff breeze Aghabog conceded an early goal but played steadily and went in at half time on level terms of 1-3 to 0-6. In a scintillating second half display they got on top and with a great goal midway through the half by Ellen Mc Carron they pushed on and deservedly won this title after many disappointments. This was a really good team performance, with the Currin contingent contributing handsomely to the victory on a scoreline of 2-13 to 2-3. In goals Niamh Connolly as excellent, emulating her big brother Fergal in making a number of telling saves. In defence Orla King was superb, while up front Ellen McCarron gave an MVP display and was ably assisted by Fabiana O Callaghan and the Boylan sisters Laura and Rachel. Flavia O Callaghan and Rebecca Murphy made up the remainder of the Currin representation. In truth this was a victory for teamwork and cohesion. Congratulations are extended to all concerned. After the cup was presented to joint captains Charlotte Brady and Marion Shields, the celebrations began and continued for quite awhile. These celebrations certainly put anything the men can do into the shade and we wish them well in their quest for Ulster honours later in the year.
