Senior Football

Owing to Monaghan being in the Ulster finals there are no fixtures for the foreseable future.

Reserve Senior football

Saturday 20th July is officially our next fixture in the Reserve football league division 3, against Aghabog in Scotshouse at 7.45 pm.

Youth Affairs

U’8’s-

Our U 8 team played a “Go Games” blitz in Tyholland last Thursday evening. These future superstars displayed some great skill in each of their games. Fantastic finishing from Killian Kearns, Ronan Mc Philllips and Aaron Smith. Currin worked hard in defence with Adam Markey, Conor Murphy, Kevin Duffy, Sean Mc Quaid, Eoghan Molloy, Zack Rooney and Daragh Mc Guigan all contributing. Well done to all the lads and management.

U-10’s:-

Our U 10 team were also playing in Tyholland for their ‘Go games’ along with Aghabog, Emyvale and Tyholland. Our lads showed great character and strength dominating all three games. Jack Mc Quaid, Luke Rooney and Shannon Murphy did most of the finishing up front while  Shane Duffy and Danny Mc Quaid controlled the middle. Kirsty Mc Phillips, Peter Boyle, Megan Swift and Kevin Mc Phillips were all fantastic. In defence,  Well done to all who took part and their management, this team has a bright future ahead.

U-12’s:-

The U 12’s are away to Donaghmoyne on Saturday at 1.15pm and then away to Killevan on Wednesday 10th.

U-14’s

Training continues Monday at 5 – 6pm in Priests field.

U-16’s

On Sunday morning last Currin / Aghabog continued their good form with a win over Rockcorry in the championship. With a strong wind at their backs and superb cohesive forward play an unassailable lead was built up by half time and they were never headed to run out convincing winners at the end. The Currin contingent performed really well, with a strong and skillful performance from Dylan Geenan in the forwards and Jason Mc Kiernan giving a towering display at midfield. In goals Kevin Murphy was very sound and he dealt with the difficult kickouts against the wind very well. Ronan King was excellent at half back and in the second half Conor Beatty got on the scoring sheet ably assisted by the deft and skillful play of Patrick Poynton. Damien Connolly and Terry Mc Entee completed our representation and we wish them well in the rest of the competion. Mentors, Enda Mc Caffrey and Niall Mc Entee are to be congratulated for their committment, well done everyone. The semi final is on Sunday morning next against Tyholland at 12.00 in a venue to be confirmed. Please support.

Community Development Fund

Well done and congratulations to our Committee members for securing a grant of €5,000 from the County Development Fund. This will go towards enhancing our facilities for our spectators.

Currins Sports Stars

Congratulations to club members Daniel Mc Kenna and Shane Brady who excelled in their respective sports at the weekend. Shane won the Enniskillen 10k on Sunday in a fantastic sub 37 min time and Daniel cemented his position as the leading young rally driver of the moment with victory in his class in Dumfries, Scotland.

Inter County Football

Monaghan qualified for the Ulster final by overcoming Cavan in a tight game last Sunday. The cliché, ‘semi finals are for winning’, has never been more apt. Monaghan, with clearly the better players, were almost undone by a Cavan system, but a ‘bit of championship nous’ in the second half saw Monaghan get the result they deserved. Monaghan are now in the final against Donegal. What an opportunity this is for everyone, management, players and supporters. Well done to all, especially Dick, Jack and Stephen, our three representatives.

 

Kevin Mc Donald

Last Sunday’s win over near neighbours Cavan had to be one of the most satisfying results for arguably one of Monaghan’s best supporters, Kevin Mc Donald. Kevin is son of Rosanne (nee Mc Eniff) and Thomas Mc Donald, formerly of Knox, Scotshouse. Sadly Thomas Snr passed away a few years ago but a more fervent Currin and Monaghan supporter you couldn’t find anywhere. Although born in England, Kevin and his brother Thomas, follow in their father’s footsteps and religiously travel from England to support their county through thick and thin. Kevin certainly had a spring in his step coming up Fermanagh street on Saturday evening and it’s also safe to say that Rosanne, Tommy and Phil had a smile on their faces as well.
