June 26th, 2013

Help Needed: All hands on deck and shoulders to the wheel this week for the Monaghan V Cavan match on Saturday.  We’re doing a clean up today and tomorrow and volunteer assistance is required.  For all you students out there looking to make a few bob on Saturday evening, we require Program sellers and shop assistants.  Contact Club Secretary Kevin or Chairman Tom for details. There are a limited number of places available so first come first served.

Best of Luck: to Fintan Kelly and the Monaghan Minor and Senior teams as they take on Cavan this Saturday evening in Clones.  Throw-in for the minor game is 5pm with the senior match at 7pm.  An Ulster final with All Ireland champions Donegal await the victors, the very best of luck to both teams.

Tickets; for the Monaghan V Cavan match are on sale and available in SuperValu, there are a limited number of Gerry Arthurs Stand tickets so come early to avoid disappointment.

Good Luck; to Darren Freeman who is heading to America for the summer months.  Without exception Darren has been our best player this year and the team will miss him greatly as will his family and friends around town.  It’s a great experience and he’ll be playing along side another Clones legend in Lonan Maguire.  Be safe and enjoy yourself Darren, don’t forget to come back!

Belated birthday wishes: to Jake Reihill who celebrated his 18th birthday last week.  This popular young man had no problemfending of the ladies for the 18 kisses including his nanny Bridget who is his number 1 fan.  Currently recovering from shoulder surgery we wish him a speedy recovery.

Speedy recovery; to James MacElwain and Declan McQuaid who are both out currently with injuries, we wish them a speedy recovery and no doubt will see them back on the field of play without delay.

Cúl Camps: Following on from the huge success of our Easter Camps the summer Cúl Camp takes place from the 8th-12th of July. Cost of Camps 1st child 55euro, 2nd child 45euro, 3rd child 40euro each, & 35euro if a child wants to attend another camp (without gear). All Camps cater for 5 to 13 year old boys/girls. Reserves:  played Emyvale last week in a very entertaining and high tempo affair.  Down to the bare fifteen Clones had to call upon Secretary Kevin Lynch to roll back the years and don the boots as first Sub, the civil defence were on standby just in case.  Kevins services weren’t required and Clones were on top at the end.  Statistics may show that the average age of the team was 28 but that belied the true story as the Team sheet shows; Shane Slowey, Niall Maguire, Eugene Holland, James Gibson, Daragh Graham, Martin Slowey, Eddie Treanor, Fintan Cunningham, Emmet McEntee, Jeffrey Elliott, Sarto Quigley, Gerard Foy, Sean Cunningham, Colin McCaughey and Shane Farrell.  Subs not used Kevin Lynch. Players worth a mention for their tenacity and great displays by Niall Maguire, Jeffrey Elliot, Fintan Cunningham, Shane Farrell and Gerard Foy.

Minors; There’s a break for four weeks now with the county championship getting underway our next minor match is against Rock Emmets away on the 9th of July.

Under 16’s; beat a very determined Eire Og team last Thursday on a scoreline of 1:15 to 3:06.  In a match where we led from start to finish the boys worked relentlessly hard for the whole match and showed great character to dig deep in the 2nd half when Eire Og had pulled a couple of goals back.  The worked very hard for each other, played some really nice football and took some excellent scores at important times and under pressure.  This was a very nice team performance and sets it up well for the weekend.  They’re away  to Latton this evening at 7:30pm.  The big one is Sunday when they play Aughnamullen in the big field at 7pm.  This is a Championship Quarterfinal and your support is required and greatly appreciated by both team and management.

Under 14’s; The U14 Clones/Currin Division 1 played Inniskeen last Saturday despite playing exceptionally in a fast paced enjoyable game they came up short by four points.  They can continue to take great heart form these performances and are getting better and better as the weeks go on.  Division 5 team received the points as Truagh were unable to field a team.

Under 12’s: the under 12’s played Killany away on Tuesday last and were beaten, in a tight match where both teams played well, Killany edged out the victors.  Division 3B play their next match on Saturday in Currin, throw-in 12pm.

Under 8/10’s: A blitz took place for our Under 8’s on Saturday in the big field, there was a great attendance, it’s heartwarming to see the effort that the players and their coaches are putting in.  “Mol na h’oige agus tiocfaidh siad”, encourage the youth and they will achieve. Thanks to SuperValu for supplying the fruit. Training was cancelled yesterday due to the preparation of work being done on the field for the big game on Saturday evening.  Training again on Wednesday 3rd July.
