Seniors- The boys played away to Clones in the semi-final of the league on Saturday last at 4pm. Drumhowan had just scored 1 points in the first half with a half time score of 7 points to 1. Clones continued to dominate the 2nd half and won with a full time score of 1-15 to 7 points.
Under 14s – Not to be outdone by other teams in the club the 14 squad added another cup to the trophy cabinet when they had a 6-10 to 2-12 win over a strong Fergal O Hanlons side. This team set out in a determined fashion to get Super Saturday off to a winning start. They came out of the blocks quickly and raced into an early lead in the first quarter a lead they would never lose. In the second quarter O Hanlons will rue some poor shooting which would have reduced the deficit. The half time score was 2-3 to 0.5. Drumhowan had a strong third quarter where they increased the lead to 8 points and with stood a late onslaught to hang on for victory in the final quarter. There were great scenes of joy as the up was presented to team captain Owen Quinn by Ulster Council Rep and Drumhowan man Gerry Duffy. Well done to all the panel of players who have been very dedicated to their training since early February and to their parents for encouraging them to do so. Panel was Tom Mc Guirk, Patrick Duffy, Joseph Duffy, Ryan Duffy, Owen Quinn, Finbarr Brennan, Niall Duffy, Colm Mc Mahon, Patrick Quinn, Niall Markey, Daniel Tomany, Stefan Farrell, Dara Mc Elearney, and Aodhan Brennan. Also great credit is due to their mentors who give up so much free time to coach and look after the boys so well done to Padraig Duffy, Francis Mc Mahon, Paul Mc Guirk and Anthony Brennan for all their hard work which yielded this success. This now completes one of most successful years ever at juvenile level with cups at Under 12 and 14 and U-16 and Minor level with St Pats. It goes to show if the hard work is put in results and success will follow.
Clontibret Tournament – Our under 8 and 10 sides took part in a tournament run by the Clontibret club on the middle part of Super Saturday last. We had games against Cremartin, Doohamlet and Clontibret in the group stages. Both our teams qualified for the final where they both played Cremartin. Our Under 8 team put up a gallant performance in the final but went under to a strong Cremartin side. Our 10 team also played Cremartin in the final and after a very exciting game at full time it was a draw. It then went to sudden death and next score wins and Cremartin managed to score first. All players received medals and refreshments after the finals. Thanks to the Clontibret club for the invitation and the hospitality afterwards. Well done to all our players who performed so well on the day. That now completes the season for this group. Thanks to all the coaches who worked with these groups throughout the year. So well done to Barry Tomany, Donal Mc Adam, Sean Lavelle, Dermott Mc Dermott, Kevin Curran, Lorraine Duffy and Noel Duffy for all their time and effort all season and also thanks to any parents who helped out various nights during the season.
