Emyvale Notes

September 15th, 2012

Emyvale GAA Club Notes for Thursday 13th September:

Minor Football League Final:  Emyvale Minors had a busy week with two important matches. On Tuesday week last they played Magheracloone at Blackhill in the Division 2 League Final. The first half is best forgotten from an Emyvale point of view as it was riddled with mistakes. Dylan Mc Kenna kept Emyvale in contention when he pounced on a loose ball after a defensive error to blast to the back of the Magheracloone net. The half-time score was Magheracloone 1:8 Emyvale 1:3. Emyvale got off to the perfect start in the second half when Ryan Mc Anespie drove low to the back of the Mageracloone net. Emyvale were now in the driving seat and points from Darren Doherty & Nathan Keenan levelled the scores. Anthony O’Brien set Daithi Colton up with the perfect pass and Daithi tried to lob the keeper but his effort went wide. Magheracloone then went three ahead and Emyvale had a goal disallowed for an alleged square ball. Emyvale pulled two back through Ryan Mc Anespie and Rory Sherry. Magheracloone increased their lead to two and in injury time Daithi Colton converted a free and Ryan Mc Anespie was once again on target to level scores again. Magheracloone had a chance to get the winning score but spurned the chance and the final whistle sounded to leave the score Emyvale 2:09 Magheracloone 1:12. Emyvale team & scorers: Paudie Hayes, James Mc Kenna, Dylan Mc Kenna 1:0,  Aaron Loughran, Darren Doherty 0:2, Mervyn Browne, Nathan Keenan 0:1, Colin Hughes, Ryan Nestor, Rory Sherry 0:1, Daithi Colton 0:2, Ryan Mc Anespie 1:3, Christopher Treanor, Enda Callery, Anthony O’Brien. Sub. Jack Kelly.

Then on Saturday last Emyvale & Truagh Minor teams met in Tyholland in a play off to decide who would progress to this year’s Minor Championship semi-final. Played in ideal conditions before a large crowd, Emyvale had to field without Dylan Mc Kenna & David Mc Allister who were both injured but they got off to the better start and were leading four points to one before Truagh found their rhythm and levelled the scores. Emyvale missed a lot of chances in the opening half dropping at least four shots into the keepers hands and hitting at least four wides. At half-time the sides were level with five points each. Emyvale started strongly in the second half and after hitting two more wides, Ryan Mc Anespie was on target with a fisted shot over the bar. Emyvale went two up but Truagh got one back, they seemed to get their scores easier than Emyvale.  Emyvale scored two more to put them three ahead but once again Truagh reduced the deficit to one point with time running out, Ryan Mc Anespie made a great run to tap over with his left to leave the final score Emyvale 0:11 Truagh 0:9. It was a good team performance by Emyvale who were always in control and but for some wayward shooting should have won by a comfortable margin. They now meet Donaghmoyne on next Saturday in the semi-final. Emyvale team & scorers: Paudie Hayes, James Mc Kenna, Enda Callery, Aaron Loughran, Conor Mc Quillan, Mervyn Browne, Nathan Keenan, Colin Hughes, Ryan Nestor, Daithi Colton 0:4, Ryan Mc Anespie 0:5, Darren Doherty, Christopher Treanor 0:1, Rory Sherry 0:1, Anthony O’Brien. Subs. Jack Kelly, Stephen O’Brien.

Reserve Division 3 Semi Final: Emyvale B Team played Aughnamullen in the semi-final of the Reserve 3 League in Aughnamullen on Sunday last. Like the first match it was an exciting match with a nail biting finish. Aughnamullen played with the aid of a strong breeze in the first half but they were guilty of some wayward shooting and Emyvale were lucky to be in contention at half-time with a scoreline of Aughnamullen 0:3 Emyvale 0:2. Emyvale now had the wind on their backs and they pushed forward and went ahead midway through the second half but Aughnamullen played with great determination and kept Emyvale from widening the gap too much and heading towards the final whistle just one point separated the teams but Emyvale got another point to win by two. The final score was Emyvale 0:7 Aughnamullen 0:5. Team & scorers: Matthew Mc Aree, Micheal Flood, Emmet Colleran, Seamus Downey, David Gilbane, Darren Mc Kernan 0-2, Paul Mc Carron, Michael Flannery, John Thomas Treanor 0:1, Cillian Mc Carron 0:1, James Mc Allister, Brendan Askin 0:2, Gavin Mc Kernan 0:1, Donal Mc Areavey, Patrick Mc Carron. Subs. Stephen Askin, Mervyn Browne.
