Senior Football League.

On Sunday last we travelled to Carrickmacross for our SFL Division 1 fixture. In a game fortunate to be played because parts of the pitch were flooded, Currin weathered early Carrick pressure and took control of the game and went in deservedly leading at half time by four points, 0-7 to 0-3. In the second half , two early points by the third minute were cancelled out by three frees from Carrick to leave just one score between the teams for almost the entire second half. We were leading by three points but a thirty third minute injury time goal gave Carrick a rather fortuitous draw. Senior football is very unforgiving, mistakes are severely punished and possession must be turned into scores. Half of Carrick’s scores came from frees and we only scored one point in thirty three minutes of play in the second half. Against lesser opposition you can get away with it but not at senior level. The next fixture will be on the weekend of August 24th – 26th in the Championship. This will be against the winners of Ballybay and the Harps who play on Friday night. Venue and time will be decided after this game. Keep in touch with the Monaghan GAA website for definite fixtures. Also the Fixtures will be posted in the village.

Ladies Football

Aghabog ladies lost to Magheracloone in the final on last Friday. Commiserations to the girls. A narrow defeat is always difficult to accept especially having trained so hard all year. The final score was Magheracloone 2-12 Aghabog 1-11.

Redhills Carnival on the Green:  A brilliant weekend which was well supported by all.  The event was very successful and so Congratulations to those who organised the Carnival.  They were blessed with good weather, every event was well organised and enjoyed.  The Alternative Rose Competition had entries from Local villages and was deservedly won by the local entry from Redhills.  The Scotshouse entry was Lady Veronica who would have been in with a chance if not very much pregnant expecting two, one of each apparently!  Well done the villagers of Redhills who obviously worked very hard to make it a good weekend.  WE are all looking forward to a repeat performance next year on 9th, 10th and 11th August.  Put this in your diary for next year.
