Castleblayney Notes

July 17th, 2012

Lotto – There was no jackpot winner of the lotto draw this week which took place on Monday night in The Conabury Inn, Main St.The four lucky dips winners of €50 each were Bridie Moore, Castleblayney; Seamus Kerr, Castleblayney, Gabriel McCooey and Bev Butcher, 47 Bree. The numbers drawn were 1, 4, 20, 25. Next week’s draw will take place next Monday evening in Corrigans Kitchen. Don’t forget that Julys monthly prize is a top of the range barbeque and ALL tickets bought in the month are entered in the draw.

Seniors – With Monaghans exit from the qualifiers last weekend the seniors return with a bang with two games this week. First up on Saturday evening we face Truagh in Oram at 7PM and on Wednesday night next we travel to Scotshouse for the first time to play Currin with a 7.45PM throw-in.

Junior B – A disappointing turnout of players left us to turn out an understrength team last Saturday evening and we were well beaten 2-20 to 1-07 by Magheracloone. There was another B fixture last night (Wednesday) against Latton result in next weeks notes.

Junior C – The C season finished with a whimper last weekend as Truagh conceded the points in our last league game. This was a season of consolidation in a higher division for the lads and hopefully we will be stronger next season. Thanks to Malachy, Stephen and all the players who togged out during the season for all their effort.

U21 – The U21s were defeated 1-16 to 1-07 by Truagh in their Q/F clash last Friday evening. The teams were fairly well matched in the first period but superior finishing from Truagh allowed them to pull away in the 2nd period and win comfortably.

Ulster Minor Final – Best of luck to Monaghan Minors in their quest to win the Ulster Title this Sunday, a special word of mention to our representatives Fergal Malone and Barry Hanratty.

Muckno Mania – The club played a big part in last weekends hugely successful Muckno Mania festival. First up on Thursday night two Faughs teams of “chefs” took part in Come Cook with us in the Glencarn Hotel with the team of Aine McDonald and Sammy McAree coming out on top after an intense cook off. On Friday night many of our younger members (and some not so young ones) dressed as Hulks in the World record attempt. There was no let up on Saturday with many Faughs heads visible in the early morning triathalon. The action moved to St Marys Park on Saturday afternoon for a Teddy Bears picnic and sports day hosted by the Faughs, with the weather playing its part the competition was strong and a great afternoon was had by all. On Sunday our stall at the Family Fun day at Lough Muckno was one of the most visited with young and old alike trying their hands at our skills challenges. Indeed it was great to see so many players past, present and future at the stall throughout the day. We’d like to pass on our congratulations to the Muckno Mania committee for the great weekend they put together and to our own members who helped out in any way over the weekend, thanks very much. Photographs from the weekend will be in the gallery on the website shortly.

Faughs Summer Camp – The Club will hold their annual Summer Camp in St Marys Park from August 15th to August 18th for boys and girls aged 5-13 yrs old. Due to space restrictions places will be limited so we would request that parents get their registrations forms returned to any of the Juvenile Coaches as soon as possible so we can plan a great few days.
