Seniors:

We played Truagh in the senior football league last night, Wednesday, in St Mellan’s.  We have no senior game on this the Bank Holiday weekend. Good to see Jack back in training. Our next fixture is on Sunday 10th June away to Clontibret.

Ulster Championship.

Last Sunday was one of those ‘good’ days for Monaghan football. Wins on the same day in both the minor and senior championship are rare and should be savoured and enjoyed. This was a great day for our two Currin representatives, Stephen Smith and Dick Clerkin, for different but equally special reasons. This was Stephens first championship involvement and to be part of an Ulster senior championship winning panel is a great achievement.  Dick on the other hand has seen it all before and continues to lead by example. Last Sunday he produced one of his best displays in a Monaghan shirt and contributed significantly to a great team win. Congratulations to all concerned. Monaghan will play the winners of Down and Fermanagh in the Ulster semi finals on June 24th.

Juvenile and Youth.

Under 14’s: We play Clontibret on Saturday 2nd June at home. Your support for all juvenile games would be appreciated.

Training: U-14 Training takes place every Thursday from 4.15pm to 5.30pm and training for all juveniles continues on Saturday mornings from 11.00am to 12.15pm.

SCOTSHOUSE:

The Daily Star has organised this competition which local man Stephen Beattie from Lattacrossan has entered.  After being interviewed and getting his work vetted, Stephen made it to last 10. Another interview by a panel of three in Dublin last week saw Stephen through to the last five.  The winner is to be decided by public vote in the Daily Star.  Each candidate will feature in the Daily Star each day, voting lines open at noon this Friday for people to vote. So please buy the Daily Star and vote for Stephen. Encourage your friends and family to vote as well. Look for the number in the Daily Star or on local posters.  This could be of great benefit for Stephen.

The Annual General Meeting of Newbliss Vintage Club will take place on Wednesday June 6th in the Heritage House Newbliss at 9 pm.

Our sympathies to Colm King, Corrinshigo whose mother was buried in Killeevan last week.  Also to Hugh Shannon whose mother died recently, and the family and friends of Teresa Slowey who died recently.  May they rest in peace.

Three day pilgrimage to Lough Derg begins this Friday 1st June.  Full details from             071 9861518       or loughderg.org

Congratulations to Martin and Nicole Duffy of Corrinshigo on the birth of their daughter Casey Josephine, sister to Laura, Shane, Kevin and Eddie. Mother and daughter are home and both doing well.

Congratulations also to Johnny and Laura McPhillips on the birth of a baby girl Caoimhe, sister to Conor, Dillon and Shawn. Caoimhe was born prematurely in Drogheda hospital six weeks ago weighing just three pounds, then she went to just over two pounds.  After four weeks in Drogheda she was transferred to Cavan Hospital for a further two weeks.  She is now home with the family and is a great joy to her Grandparents Bridget and Pat and all the family.

Tidy Towns Competition:  This is the time to get the village ready for the judges who come each year to judge the state of our village.  Can you spare a couple of hours on Friday and/or Saturday.  On Friday the flowers will arrive in the morning and help is needed at around 2pm to get them planted.  A number of ladies helped last year so maybe they would like to come again.  On Saturday 2nd  help is needed in the village, no need to bring any tools, they will be provided, just come along and help.  Bring the children they can help as well. We can all help to show that we have pride in living in a lovely village.

Congratulations to Monaghan GAA team who beat Antrim on Sunday.  Lets hope they are all fit and well for the next round against either Fermanagh or Down.  I am sure they will get your support.
