Gardaí in Monaghan are advising motorists to expect longer than expected travel journeys this weekend.
The warning comes as the county prepares to host a Monaghan Stages Rally and St Tiernach Park’s staging of the first round of the Ulster Senior Football Championship in Clones between Monaghan and Cavan on Sunday.
“Please be aware that due to the Monaghan Stages Rally and Championship match at St Tiernach’s Park, Clones, this weekend traffic volumes from the Moybridge to Corlatt roundabout are expected to be heavy throughout the day,” said a garda spokesperson, who referenced the roundabout at Maurice Grahams to be especially congested.
The spokesperson said officers would be on duty directing traffic throughout the day and asked spectators attending the match in Clones to consider an alternative route.
The most notable road closures on Sunday is expected to affect traffic coming from Emyvale towards Monaghan town, the spokesperson added.
“Patrons attending the match in Clones are advised to consider travelling to Tydavnet village via Corraghbrack cross from the N2 and onwards to Clones from there,” the spokesperson said.
