Monaghan GAA County Convention and Awards: At the recent Monaghan GAA Convention and awards announcement there was great pride among all members from Emyvale GAA. In memory of our dear friend Marion Donnelly, Monaghan GAA made a touching and fitting change to what was formerly known as the Annual Senior Club Person Award to the Marion Donnelly Perpetual Award, and it came with great joy and pride that our Club Chairperson, Enda O’Brien has become its inaugural recipient. Another Award recipient was Emyvale’s Niall “Mo” McKenna who scooped the Senior Referee for Championship. A really well deserved accolade for one of Ulster’s most popular and top referees the game has seen for years. Congratulations to Enda and Niall on their deserving awards.

A worthy note must also go to Barry Sherry who drafted and immaculately delivered a motion on behalf of the club to the convention which was subsequently passed. Anyone seeking more details on this motion please contact Barry or the Club secretary.

As previously mentioned above, Monaghan GAA recently changed the Annual Senior Club Person Award to the Marion Donnelly Perpetual Award, which is a wonderful way to keep the memory of Marion alive in the hearts of all GAA people for generations to come. It is one year on since the tragic passing of Marion, who was probably the most influential person in Emyvale GAA’s recent history and one who will sit with the greats in our club’s almost 110-year history. However, Marion’s influence and structures are still felt throughout the club and the wider community, and it is a mark of the respect that Marion is held in that Monaghan GAA renamed the award in Marion’s honour. One year on, we as a club and a community, fondly remember Marion as a friend, Clubmate and Gael. Marion’s first anniversary mass will take place this Friday evening 22nd at 7:30pm in St. Patrick’s Church, Corracrin.

Nollaig Sona Dhuit: Wishing all our members and their families a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful and Happy New Year.
