By Majella Boyd Tue 19th Dec

Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi Mhaise Daoibh!

We wish all our members, players, volunteers, patrons and our community a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year. Well done to everyone involved in our activities and events during 2023, which was another successful year in both adult and juvenile levels, and also off-field in our community. Thanks to everyone involved to help others in need in our parish and to raise our spirits during these times post Covid-19 Pandemic. Thanks everyone for all your support and work throughout the year and here’s to a successful 2024.

Scotstown GAA New Kilmore Building Open Day

On Saturday last 16th December there was an open day in the new Kilmore building where the local community could view the new state of the art gym, and meeting rooms, dressing rooms and other facilities. Many thanks to the huge attendance of people to preview the facilities on offer.

The Kilmore training grounds which lie between the fast growing villages of Ballinode and Scotstown were purchased back in 1995 and have quickly become an essential part of our expanding community. Since then a number of development initiatives have been undertaken, including the introduction of the popular walking track and top class Prunty pitch. We want to serve the whole Parish of Tydavnet better. We want to improve the structure of Kilmore, making it a safe and inclusive community hub for people of all ages to enjoy.

In 2020, we conducted a 39 question survey to assess the needs of the local community of Tydavnet Parish as part of the development of a shared vision for the future of our parish called Vision 2025. This involved inviting local people’s input into its development and to identify the needs of the parish. The purpose of the household survey was to gather views and feedback to assist Scotstown GAA in their aims of the continuous improvement of the club and parish.

As face-to-face public consultations were not possible during 2020 as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, the household survey was used as a platform to identify needs, strengths, weaknesses, and areas that could signpost themes for further evaluation and consultation. Part of this survey focused on the Kilmore training grounds. Respondents were invited to participate on the online Survey Monkey facility through social media platforms during October and November 2020. 278 people participated in the household survey.

This included the development of a 4G playing pitch & running track; Improvements and upgrades to existing dressing room and toilet facilities; A second floor extension with the introduction of several useful services including; Gym, Studio, Kitchen, Club Shop, meeting rooms, training rooms etc.; easier parking facilities etc.

The new community hub encompasses most of the suggestions including the gym, meeting rooms and kitchen etc. We are delighted to announce that the new facilities will open in the New Year with the Gym opening on January 2nd. We would like to thank our development committee and all our volunteers for their hard work in achieving this development and to the Cairde NaBotha sponsors, LEADER funding and all the everyone else involved in its support.
