There’s something special about seeing your team run out of the tunnel in Clones and last Sunday we were delighted to play on the hallowed turf of St.Tiarnach’s, put in a good performance and earn a win. In the game Rasharkin who won the double in Antrim started quickly going 1-1 to 0-1 up inside the first 10 minutes. Full forward Eamonn McNeill hit the net in the 4th minute and at that stage Colm Shalvey’s statistics on the back page of last week’s standard were to say the least concerning, Eamonn would finish with 1-6 scoring all bar one free of his team’s total. Blackhill’s response however was emphatic, a penalty awarded for a foot block was dispatched by Darren McElroy in the 11th minute, this was quickly followed by a brace inside a minute from Phillip Donnelly midway through the half, the first of which was a great team goal with the ball moved the length of the pitch at pace. Points from D McElroy, P Donnelly and Tommy Geehan saw us in at the break with a 10 point lead. Raskaskin battled hard and the Blackhill defence did very well to hold them at bay with Donagh Quigg industrious for the visitors. Two goals from Tommy Geehan and Hugh Byrne inside the first 10 minutes of the second half settled the contest with both teams running their benches in the final 20 minutes. Blackhill added further points in the final quarter from Hugh Byrne, James Daly and Niall Donnelly to earn a semi-final place versus Fintona Pearses (Tyrone) next weekend.

Our sincere thanks to Clones GAA & Coiste-Chontae-Mhuineachain.
