Intermediate Championship: Round 5 of the McElvaney Waste and Recycling Intermediate Championship saw Emyvale travel to Threemilehouse to take on Sean McDermotts. After some early rain , the day cleared up in time for the throw in and It was a must win game for Emyvale to keep our 2023 championship hopes alive, but it was Seans who opened the scoring in the first minute with a great point. However, it didn’t take Emyvale long to recover and a free from Niall McKenna settled the scores. There was a quick succession of points from each side which would be a recurring theme of the first half as both teams traded points. At the break Emyvale led by 8 points to 6 with Niall, Conor and Danny all on the scorers list.
A welcome face returned for the opening of the 2nd half as Ryan McAnespie was subbed and it was his County teammate Karl Gallagher who got the second half underway with a terrific point to give Emyvale a 3-point advantage. Another point from Danny and two super long-range points from an on-form Niall McKenna extended the Emyvale lead to 0:12 – 0:06. Greg Devlin tacked on another point after a blistering run from the defence lines to point one over and it wasn’t until 17 minutes into the second half for Seans to register a score. Two further points from frees from Niall and a goal created by a Michael Hamill opportunity saw Alistair Stewart find the back of the net in what was to be the last play of the
game. Well done to team and management and a Quarter Final with Cremartin to now look forward to on the weekend of 30th September (details to be confirmed)
