2023 Monaghan Club Football Championships
The 2023 Men’s Monaghan Club Championships had a break last weekend. Round 3 of the Ladies Championship took place over the weekend.
The Ladies played O’Neill Shamrocks in Round 3 of the Combi-Lift Senior Ladies Division 1 Group A Championship on Saturday last. The Ladies required a win to secure a Semi Final Place. O’Neill Shamrocks started strongly and opened up a 4 point lead after 5 minutes at 1-5 to 0-1. The Blues responded well and took a lead after 15 minutes with superb goal by Éabha Sherry making the score 1-5 to 1-3. After the waterbreak the game was a tight affair, but Scotstown sustained their lead with a half time score of 1-9 to 1-6 after fine points by Eabha Sherry, Grace Kelly, Hannah Sherlock and Casey Treanor during the 1st half. O’Neill Shamrocks started the second half strongly and reduced their deficit to just 1 point, before an excellent goal by Hannah Sherlock gave Scotstown a 4 point lead. Scotstown took momentum from that and increased their lead further, with 2 more goals, super finishes by Hannah Sherlock and by Meghan Boylan, and well placed points by Eabha Sherry, Celene Nally, and Aimee McGuirk making the final score Scotstown 4-12 O’Neill Shamrocks 1-10. Well done to the Ladies and congratulations to the team and management in booking their spot in the Semi Final. They next play Donaghmoyne away in the Championship Semi Final this Saturday 9th September at 6:00pm.
Our Senior Men next play Donaghmoyne away in Round 4 of the Senior Championship this Saturday 9th September at 3:00pm. Our Junior Men next play Killeevan at home on Saturday 16th September in Round 5 of the Junior Championship at 5:30pm.
The Fixture and results for the Men’s Championships are; In the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship, our senior men drew Donaghmoyne, Inniskeen, Clontibret and Magheracloone and are in Group 2. The fixtures are; Sunday 13th August away to Inniskeen (L 0-12 to 1-11); Sunday 27th August home to Magheracloone at (4-19 to 0-11); Saturday 9th September away to Donaghmoyne at 3:00pm; Sunday 17th September home to Clontibret at 5:00pm.
In the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship, our Junior Men drew Tyholland, Killeevan, Oram and Rockcorry and are in Group 2. The fixtures are; Friday 11th August away to Oram (W 1-9 to 2-5); Sunday 20th August home to Tyholland (L 0-10 1-12); Saturday 26th August away to Rockcorry (W 0-12 2-2); and Saturday 16th September home to Killeevan at 5:30pm. We wish the players and management on both teams all the best in this year’s Championships.
Our Blues Competitive Games in the past week
Under 13s
Our Under 13 Scotstown B team played Tyholland away in the Under 13 Division 5 Cup Competition Semi Final on Sunday last. In a superb and exciting Semi Final our U13 Blues won the game by a point 2-6 to 2-5 and booked their spot in the U13 Division 5 Cup competition final where they face Magheracloone. Well done to the team and management!
Under 15s
Our Under 15 Scotstown A boys played their Round 3 Championship games last week. Well done to the Scotstown A team in their 6-8 to 3-16 win against Magheracloone away in a superb and exciting game in the Under 15 Division 1 Group 2 Round 3 on Wednesday last. Our Scotstown B team had no games in the past week. Well done on finishing the top of Group 2. They next play in the U15 Division 5B Championship Semi Final against Inniskeen at home this Saturday 9th September at 12:00 Noon.
Under 17s
The Under 17 Championship started last weekend. The Scotstown A team were drawn in the U17 Division 1 Group A along with Monaghan Harps, St. Tiarnach’s Patrick and Truagh Gaels. The Scotstown A team first game was against Monaghan Harps at home on Saturday last in Round 1 of the Under 15 Championship Division 1 Group A. The first half was a tight affair, with well placed points by Sean Óg McElwain, Max Maguire, and Mark McCaffery, and the Blues took a 3 point lead going into injury time at 0-6 to 0-3 before Monaghan Harps equalised with a goal just before the break. The Harps started the second half strongly and were leading
by 5 points after 10 minutes. But within 3 minutes the Blues took the lead with 2 superb goals by Darcy Foy. The Blues stretched their lead further with another brilliant goal, this time by Darragh McMeel making the score, 3-8 to 2-7. Sean Óg McElwain scored the final point for Scotstown, adding to his 2 earlier excellent second half points. The Harps reduced their margin to 3 points ensuring a tense final minute. But Scotstown held their nerve and won the Round 1 game. Well done to the team and management. They next play St Tiarnach’s Patrick away on Saturday 16th September in Round 2 at 12:00 noon. The Scotstown B team were drawn to play Truagh Gaels at home in the Semi Final of the Under 17 Championship Division 4 and that game is this Sunday 10th September at 12:00pm noon in Kilmore. We wish the teams and management the very best in their championship campaigns.
Junior Division 3B Reserves
Our Division 3B Reserves had no games in the past week. They have qualified for the Division 3B Reserve League final and play Latton which takes place this Saturday 9th September at 6:00pm in Sean McDermotts. We wish the team and management the very best in the final.
Under 18 Girls
Hard luck to our Under 18 girls Scotstown A Team who lost to Castleblayney away in the Under 18 girls Division 1 League Round 8 game on Thursday of last week. They next play Killanny at home in Round 9 of the Under 18 girls Division 1 League this Thursday 7th September at 6:45pm.
Under 16 Girls
Well done to our Under 16 Scotstown A girls in their 3-14 to 0-4 win against O’Neill Shamrocks away in the Quarter Final of the Under 16 Division 1 Championship on Monday last. Our Under 16 Scotstown B team had no games in the past week. They next play Sean McDermotts away in the Quarter Final of the Under 16 Division 2 Championship this Tuesday 5th September at 6:45pm.

Our Under 14 girls had no games in the past week.
Under 12 Girls
Our Under 12 Scotstown A girls have qualified for the Under 12 Division 2 Final after defeating Aughnamullen at home on Saturday last in a superb Semi Final. Well done girls!

On Tuesday 5th September our Under 16 Scotstown B team play Sean McDermotts away in the Quarter Final of the Under 16 Division 2 Championship at 6:45pm.
On Thursday 7th September our Under 18 girls Scotstown A Team play Killanny at home in the Under 18 girls Division 1 League Round 9 game at 6:45pm.
On Saturday 9th September our Senior Men play Donaghmoyne away in Round 4 of the Senior Championship Group 2 game at 3:00pm and our Reserve 3B men play Latton in the Final of the Reserve Division 3B League in Sean McDermotts at 6:00pm. Scotstown GAA Online Club Lotto – Jackpot €10,400!!

We changed our club lotto provider recently, if you have an auto-renew ticket on the ClubForce system please cancel it and set up a new one using the link below on our new customised ClubSpot system. You can also play the lotto using our new Scotstown GAA Club app which you can download on your App Store. There is a social night this Saturday September 9th from 8:00 in the Scotstown GAA Social Club for the Ladies in our community. This event is kindly organised by the Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others.
Health and Wellbeing
Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. We recently had nutritional talks for our U13 to U16 boys and girls’ players and parents. As we now enter the autumn months and the football championships are currently running, we will be implementing Healthy initiatives soon and will update everyone as these happen.
Our Condolences
The club would like to offer deepest condolences to the family and friends of Owen Clerkin. We would like to pass on our sympathy to his sisters Sadie, Mary & Margaret, his brother Arthur, nieces, nephews, neighbours & friends. Owen was a volunteer for Scotstown GAA in the 1970s and 1980s, and was a lifelong supporter of our club. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Gaelic For Mothers & others continues every Wednesday evening at 8.30pm in Kilmore. All welcome to come along. Great way to meet new ladies and catch up with a bit of fun. As there is no competition for the group there is no pressure to attend every week. You can join in at any stage and come when it suits you. You need to be over 25 and living in the parish.
