Pride of the Parish:
On Sunday afternoon our Under 15 team made history by completing the Division 1 league and championship double after a 1-11 to 1-09 victory over Truagh in the Championship Final in Monaghan. The boys got off to a flying start when points from Caolan Daly, Luke Gilliland, Luke Mulligan and two from Matt McNally put Aughnamullen 0-05 0-00 up after seven minutes of play. However, Truagh came back swiftly and within five minutes were only within a point of Aughnamullen. The boys needed a score to stem the Truagh flow, and this came through a precious goal from Matt McNally to put us back to four points ahead. Another McNally point put us five to the good, however, Truagh were knocking on the door and only for the heroics of Josh Daly in goals, would have scored more than just the one goal in the first half. They eventually did find the net and at half time Aughnamullen led by 1-06 to 1-05 with it all to play for. Truagh immediately levelled the game after the restart, showing that this game would be neck and neck until the final whistle. Points were traded by both sides and Truagh eventually took the lead for the first time in the game coming into the final quarter. However, momentum shifted back to the Aughnamullen boys at a crucial period of the game and the team raised the intensity levels up a number of notches when scores from Shane Geoghegan, Sean Murtagh and two from Ben McGeough without reply put three between the teams with only five minutes to go. Truagh got one point back, but it must be said again about the magic from Josh Daly between the sticks, who seemed like a man possessed, saving numerous shots that seemed destined for the back of the net. The second half of this game took serious team character and it was shown from every last player, as the boys used their experience to see out the game and become Division 1 Double Winners at Under 15 grade for the first time in our history. A huge congratulations to the team and management, which were as follows, Josh Daly
Ciaran Deery, Conor Mulligan (Captain), Sean Deery, Phil Mc Caul, Shane Geoghegan, Jason Cassidy, Sean Murtagh, Luke Gilliland, David Geoghegan, Matt Mc Nally, Conor Mc Keown, Luke Mulligan, Caolan Daly, Ben Mc Geough, Ryan Phillips, Daniel Nolan, James Burke, Alex Bannigan, Cillian Lambe, Dylan Hamilton.
