Seniors: Our Seniors made history on Saturday afternoon after winning their second successive Senior Championship game against Truagh on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-14. The visitors made fast start and raced into a 0-02 to 0-00 lead after five minutes before a Micheál Bannigan free opened our account. Truagh went two ahead again in a first half which was light on scores, with both sides missing chances. Aughnamullen closed the gap back to one before Micheál Bannigan blitzed through the opposing defence and buried the ball into the back of the net to put us ahead for the first time in the game and from here a platform was made for the boys to build on the lead. Points were traded for the remainder of the half until the last minute when a brilliant team move was finished by the excellent Kevin Sheridan who rounded the keeper and slotted home a clinically taken goal to put us five to the good. Truagh got the last score of the half and at the break we had a four point lead on a scoreline of 2-04 to 0-06. This time it was Aughnamullen who started the half brighter, with Micheál Bannigan pointing twice from frees to put us in a dominant position. As the game entered the final quarter, we held a comfortable five point lead thanks to the steady defence and once again exceptional fielding from Bobby McCaul from kickouts. However, the visitors didn’t lie down and made a strong fight back in the final minutes to leave the Aughnamullen faithful on the edge. Coming into the final minute, Truagh found themselves only two points down and when they converted a penalty to retake the lead in stoppage time it looked like the result had gotten away. To the immense credit of the boys, they kept their heads and worked a win when it didn’t look likely. We got back on level terms when Colin Clerkin once again foiled Truagh in injury time with a brilliant point under pressure to set up a dramatic finish. It was now time for KSH (Keith Sheridan’s Heroics), when with the final play of the game a ball went into the square, which was well taken down by Shay Duffy to set up his full back line companion Keith Sheridan who slapped home what was possibly the

slowest winning goal in Senior Championship history. The referee’s whistle blew as it hit the net, sending the Aughnamullen fans into rupture and securing our second win of the campaign to put us temporarily top of the table on four points, with a healthy points difference. Each and every player deserves enormous credit for what was a monumental victory, one which will no doubt go into our history books. They travel to Corduff for their final game of the group on Sunday the 10th of September at 5pm where it all hangs in the balance. A win or draw would see us through to the knockout stages of the Championship, come out and show your support to the team and management on this huge occasion.
