Toome Club Notes 24.08.2023

By Majella Boyd Thu 24th Aug

U9’s: The Under 9’s blitz on Saturday last, away in Éire Óg, was cancelled as a result of the terrible weather.
U11’s: Dearbhla Lambe and Caolan Cumiskey represented the Club at the Croke Park activity day for 2023 – a great day was had by all.
Championship: It was not such a good day for the visitors in St Oliver Plunkett Park on Saturday last 19th. A tired and undetermined performance meant that Emyvale were allowed to dictate the game. Toome started of well and it was 3 points a piece with 24 minutes on the clock, then a couple of quick turnovers and ill placed decisions on the ball let the home side through and pick of scores and gaining a 5 point lead at the interval. The second half was much the same with too many errors and this allowed the home team to pick of scores. This was a heavy loss and hopefully the lads can now shake themselves off and come out with the determination and fighting spirit we know that is within them, when they welcome Carrick to St Victors Park for Round 3 on Saturday 9th September. Be sure to be there and show your support. #BeThe16thMan.
Golf Classic: The Toome Golf Classic – Sponsored by Barry Hughes and Watters Maxol – was held over the weekend of Friday 18th and Saturday 19th August, despite the awful condition on Friday late afternoon and early on Saturday morning the conditions otherwise were very good. The course was in great shape and the golfers determined, Mickey and Brenda from Ashfield, were on hand once more to ensure the smooth running of the two days. Again this was a very successful fundraiser for the Club and special thanks go out to Louis McDonnell, Brendan Lambe, Jim McArdle and Kevin McCabe for all the work done on making this event such a success. The winner of the Classic will be published in next weeks notes as 3 teams were delayed with the Saturday morning weather and will complete their round early this week. The Club would like to extend their huge appreciation to all those who helped in any way, sold Tee Boxes and secured Teams for the event. Huge thanks to Meadow McCabe for registering all players on the Friday and ensuring each player got their snacks for the round. The event however, would not be the success it was if it were not for the overwhelming generosity of local businesses and community. This show of support is truly appreciated by all within the Toome GFC Club. Thank you to the generous sponsors of the event, Main Sponsor Barry Hughes and Silver Sponsors Watters Maxol, this support really makes the difference. Our Tee Box Sponsors and those who made donations we thank you, and remind those within the community the importance of supporting local businesses as it is them that support us. Lastly the golfers who turned out over the two days we thank you for making the effort and supporting this essential fundraiser for the Club, there was good craic over the two days and we sincerely hope you enjoyed the event.
Community Fun Day: In advance of the Children all heading back to school, we are going to  finish the summer with a bang, our Juvenile Committee are hosting a Community Fun Day on Sunday, August 27th from 2pm to 5pm. This will be a day of fun activities, competitions (for all ages), BBQ and plenty of fun and craic.
