Reserves: It was a good week for the reserves who followed up an excellent League semi-final win over Magheracloone on Tuesday evening with a 2-11 to 0-15 win over Latton in the final on Saturday evening. Two second half goals from Frank Markey and Ciaran Finnegan proved vital in a game which Donaghmoyne lead throughout without being able to fully shake off a determined Latton side.
Donaghmoyne dominated the early exchanges of the game with points from Captain Aaron Courtney, Niall Garland, Christopher Cunningham, Liam Martin and three free kicks from Matthew Marron leaving the score 0-7 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. Latton pulled two back but further scores from Daire Martin and Frank Markey moved Donaghmoyne 5 clear before a run of 4 points from Latton left the scores 0-9 to 0-8 at the interval.
The Fontenoys opened the second half with another Marron free which was soon followed by the first goal of the game which came from the fist of Frank Markey who forced home a scrambled effort from a high ball into the Latton box. Latton hit back with 3 points before another Marron free was followed up by a goal from Ciaran Finnegan who pounced on a breaking ball in the latton square to move Donaghmoyne 6 clear with 9 minutes left to play. That however was to be Donaghmoynes final score of the game as they were forced to endure a nervy last few minutes as Latton hit back with 4 more points to close to within two as the final whistle.
Well done to all the players and management on finishing off the Reserve season with some silverware. Focus now turns to the Senior Championship with our first game against Clontibret on Saturday August 19th.
