Our senior men had 2 great wins this past week.
On Tuesday past we hosted Clones in the league Q/F.
In an open and end to end match the teams matched each other point for point until the 20th minute when the Faughs got a few scores ahead and went in at half time 0-08 to 0-05 up.
Our quality of play was upped a bit in the second half but Clones never let us extend the lead and with 5 mins remaining there was only 3 points in it.
The lads pulled away in the final stretch to leave the final score Blayney 0-18, Clones 0-11.
Then on Saturday we travelled to Carrick to meet in the League semi-final. With the elements staying dry overhead, the Faughs got off to a great start and at one stage we were 0-07 to 0-01 up and in control of the game. Half time we went in 0-07 to 0-03 up.
Whatever happened at half time, the tables were turned and it was Carrick who controlled large parts of the games and in fact went 1 up at one stage after a number of mistakes led to them raising the green flag in the 25th minute. But like teams of old this team found the strength and fought back to snatch a 1 point point win right at the death to leave the final score Carrickmacross 1-09, Castleblayney 0-13.
We now meet Cremartin in the league final, to be played shortly after the IFC Championship final, with the winner being promoted to the Senior grade.
The championship is soon starting and our first game is away to Doohamlet on Saturday 12 August @ 7.00pm. We wish Eamon and all the lads the very best for their first tilt at the IFC.
Best of luck to our second reserve team this Friday night as they take on Truagh in the league final. Throw-in is at 7.30 in Clontibret on Friday night.
Despite a big effort from our 1st reserve team to have all of our senior men teams in league finals, we unfortunately lost out to Inniskeen in the semi-final played on Monday night past. This was a young team and it was a mighty effort to make it this far after a tough season, so well done to all the lads.
On Friday night past our u15 B team took on Carrick in the u15 final. With a sluggish start we went in 2-06 to 0-03 down. In an amazing turnaround, the lads took complete control in the second half and kept Carrick scoreless until the last few minutes. Indeed they went 2 ahead going into the final stretch, but Carrick fought back to draw the game and take it into extra time.
With the lads out on their feet at this stage it just wasn’t to be our night and Carrick won it by 5. Well done to the players and mgmt. Great heart and determination will stand to these lads in the future.
