Seniors: Our Senior team took on Magheracloone in the Senior League Relegation Play-off Final on Saturday evening last in Toome, where they were beaten on a scoreline of 1-09 to 0-11. The boys got off to a rapid start in the game and after three minutes of play were two to the good thanks to a
brace of frees from Micheál Bannigan. Magheracloone’s opening score of the game was followed by another from Bannigan to push our lead back out to two points, this time the score coming from play. Scores were traded from both teams in the first half, with a free kick from Jason Duffy once again extending the margin to two points nearing the end of the first quarter, however, this was to be the furthest we would be ahead in the game. A late Magheracloone flurry looked to have put them ahead at the break, until a score from Kevin Sheridan coming in the last play of the half left the teams level at half time on a scoreline of 0-05 0-05. The tight not Aughnamullen defence which probed difficult for Magheracloone to breach in the first half was undone early in the second half with a goal for the Mitchells which proved to be crucial. The concession of 1-02 without reply in the opening ten minutes of the second half looked to be fatal for Aughnamullen, but to the boys’ credit they never gave in and rallied back with scores from Bannigan and Colin Clerkin keeping us within touching distance. Three scores on the bounce from Bannigan in the closing stages ensured a grandstand finish. However, the illusive goal which Aughnamullen sought wasn’t to be found and another point from Micheál in the final minute meant that it was a case of so near yet so far at the final whistle. All hope is not lost, however, as the Championship rolls around the corner with the boys still in with a chance of survival, all is still to play for. They will hope for better fortunes in the opening game against Latton next Saturday the 12th of August at 7pm in Aughnamullen. There is no doubt more to come from the team this year, best of luck to the team and management.
Best of Luck: On behalf of the club, we would like to wish our Senior team trainer Colin O’Hare the best of luck as he embarks on an adventure to the United States with his work. Colin was part of the successful 2020 Junior Championship winning management team alongside Gabriel Bannigan and in 2021 helped the club reach an Intermediate Championship Final, resulting in the club’s promotion to Senior ranks for the first time in 26 years, where we still remain today following a historic campaign last year in which we retained our status. Colin has set a high standard in the club and we would like to thank him for his efforts and commitment over the past four years. We have no doubt he will excel in his future endeavors.

Under 15s: U15 Div 5B Final
Aughnamullen made it back-to-back U15 Div 5B Finals with a hard-earned victory over Corduff on Wednesday last on a scoreline of 2-11 to 3-6. This was a great team victory with everyone playing their part.
In the first half Aughnamullen started in the ascendancy but with several missed opportunities Corduff went into the lead with an opening goal but credit to our guys came back with several fine scores and at the end of the opening half led by 4 1-5 to 1-1 with our scores coming from Alex Bannigan, Dane Mulligan, Mason Mulligan, and Fionn Markey.
Onto the second half Corduff came out strongly and led with another goal but credit to our guys came back again with an Alex Bannigan goal and points by Peter Duffy to lead by 3 with 8 minutes
left but again the Gaels came back with another 3 pointer to leave the sides level entering the final couple of minutes but we finished strong with 2 points to win the trophy to the delight of everyone.
This was a brilliant team performance from start to finish led superbly by Rhys Geoghegan in Goals our defenders of Jack Boyle, Noah Duffy, Jack Mc Cabe and James Garrivan were outstanding particularly in the first half, our midfield of Mason Mulligan and Hugh Daire Hamill had a great duel with the Corduff counterparts and our forward line of Fionn Markey, Peter Duffy, Tommy Mooney and Alex Bannigan gave their all. Our Substitutes of Dane Mulligan, Darragh Burke, Ryan Mc Guigan and Daniel Geoghegan were influential when called upon.
