2023 Monaghan Club Football Championships

The 2023 Monaghan Club Championships continued last weekend with the commencement of the Ladies Senior Championship and Round 2 of the Men’s Championship. The Ladies played Corduff at home in Round 1 of the Combi-Lift Senior Ladies Division 1 Group A Championship on Saturday last. The Ladies put in a brilliant performance and won 3-13 to 0-6, well done to the team and management. The Ladies are in Group A along with O’Neill Shamrocks, Emyvale and Corduff. Their next game is against Emyvale away in Round 2 this Saturday 26th August at 6:30pm. In the Eurotech Junior Championship, our junior men hosted Tyholland in Round 2 of Group 2 on Sunday last. Hard luck to the team and management in their 1-12 to 0-10 defeat to Tyholland. They next play Rockcorry away this Saturday 26th August at 3:30pm in Round 3. Our Senior men had a bye in Round 2 of the Greenfield Foods Senior Championship. They next play Magheracloone at home this Sunday 27th August at 2:00pm. The Fixture and results for the Championships are; In the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship, our senior men drew Donaghmoyne, Inniskeen, Clontibret and Magheracloone and are in Group 2. The fixtures are; Sunday 13th August away to Inniskeen (L 0-12 to 1-11); Sunday 27th August home to Magheracloone at 2:00pm; Saturday 9th September away to Donaghmoyne at 3:00pm; Sunday 17th September home to Clontibret at 5:00pm.

In the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship, our Junior Men drew Tyholland, Killeevan, Oram and Rockcorry and are in Group 2. The fixtures are; Friday 11th August away to Oram (W 1-9 to 2-5); Sunday 20th August home to Tyholland at (L 0-10 1-12); Saturday 26th August away to Rockcorry at 3:30; and Saturday 16th September home to Killeevan at 5:30pm. We wish the players and management on both teams all the best in this year’s Championships.

2023 Minor Team of the Year

Well done and a massive congratulations to Seán Óg McElwain and Tommy Mallen on being named on the 2023 Electric Ireland Team of the Year for their outstanding performances for the Monaghan GAA minor team that made the All Ireland Final for the first time since 1939 this year. Also congratulations to the other Farney Minors who were named on the team of the year, Emyvale GAA Matthew Finn, Cremartin Gaa Jamie Mooney, and Monaghan Harps GAA Jack Lynch.

Our Blues Competitive Games in the past week

Under 13s

Our Under 13 boys’ teams were in action last weekend. Hard luck to the Scotstown A team who narrowly lost 3-12 to 4-8 away to Monaghan Harps in the Under 13 Division 1 Cup Competition Group A Round 3 game on Saturday last. Well done to our Under 13 Scotstown B team in their win over Clontibret away in the Under 13 Division 5 Cup Competition Group B Round 3 game on Sunday last. Hard luck to the Scotstown C team who were defeated by Magheracloone at home in the Under 13 Division 5 Cup Competition Group B Round 3 game on Saturday last.

Under 15s

The 2023 Under 15 Championship commenced last week. The Scotstown A team were drawn in the U15 Division 1 Group 2 along with Donaghmoyne, Killanny, and Magheracloone. The Scotstown A team first game was against Donaghmoyne away on Thursday of last week in Round 1 of the Under 15 Championship Division 1 Group 2. Hard luck to the lads in their 2-15 to 4-6 defeat. They next play Killanny at home in Round 2 this Thursday 24th August at 7:00pm. The Scotstown B team were drawn in the U15 Division 5B Group 2 along with Aughnamullen and Corduff. The top 2 teams from the groups qualify for the Semi Finals for each division. The Scotstown B team first game was against Corduff away on Friday last in Round 1 of the Under 15 Championship Division 5B Group 2. Well done in their 1-11 to 1-6 win. They next play Aughnamullen at home in Round 2 this Wednesday 23rd August at 7:00pm.

Under 17s

On Monday last our Under 17 Scotstown A team faced Emyvale at home in the U17 Division 1 League Cup Semi Final. Well done to the team and management on a brilliant display and result winning 2-15 to 0-13 and booking a spot in the final against Castleblayney. The final is to be played this weekend. Please see our social media platforms for more details on date, time and venue. We wish the team and management the very best in the final.

Our Under 17 Scotstown B Team had no games in the past week. They next play in the Championship.

Junior Division 3B Reserves

Our Division 3B Reserves had no games in the past week. They have qualified for the Division 3B Reserve League final and play either Latton or Truagh which takes place during weekend of the 8th September.

Under 18 Girls

Well done to our Under 18 girls Scotstown A Team in their win against O’Neill Shamrocks away in the Under 18 girls Division 1 League Round 6 game on Thursday of last week. They next play Carrickmacross away in Round 6 of the Under 18 girls Division 1 League on Thursday 17th August at 7:00pm.

Under 16 Girls

Well done to our Under 16 Scotstown A girls in their 4-17 to 2-4 win against Tyholland away in the U16 Division 1 league Semi Final on Monday last. They play Magheracloone in the final. We wish the team and management the very best in the final.

Under 14 Girls

Our Under 14 girls had no games in the past week.

Under 12 Girls

Our Under 12 girls had no games in the past week. The U12 Scotstown B team play Truagh away this Friday 25th August in the U12 Division 3 Semi Final at 7:00pm.

On Thursday 24th August our Under 15 Scotstown A team play Killanny at home in Round 2 of the Under 15 Championship Division 1 Group 2 at 7:00pm and our Under 18 girls Scotstown A Team play Carrickmacross at home in the Under 18 girls Division 1 League Round 7 game at 7:00pm.

On Friday 25th August our Under 12 girls’ Scotstown B team play Truagh away in the Under 12 Division 1 Semi Final at 7:00pm.

On Saturday 26th August our Junior men play Rockcorry away in the Junior Championship Group 2 Round 3 game at 3:30pm and our Senior Ladies play Emyvale away in Round 2 of the Senior Ladies Championship Group A game at 6:30pm

On Sunday 27th August our Senior men play Magheracloone at home in the Senior Championship Group 2 Round 3 game at 2:00pm.

On Wednesday 30th August our Under 15 Scotstown B team play Aughnamullen at home in Round 2 of the Under 15 Championship Division 5B Group 2 at 7:00pm.

On Thursday 31st August our Under 18 girls Scotstown A Team play Castleblayney away in the Under 18 girls Division 1 League Round 8 game at 7:00pm.

Scotstown GAA Online Club Lotto – Jackpot €10,000!!

We changed our club lotto provider recently, if you have an auto-renew ticket on the ClubForce system please cancel it and set up a new one using the link below on our new customised ClubSpot system. You can also play the lotto using our new Scotstown GAA Club app which you can download on your App Store. Please note that all tickets purchased via clubforce that still have draws remaining have been moved over to our new platform and will be included in the Lotto until they expire. Ciste Draw

The August Ciste draw will take place this Saturday Night, August 26th at 10:00pm, in the Social Club. You can purchase your Ciste tickets in our local shops. There are tickets, envelopes and collection boxes in each of these shops; McMahon Centra, Scotstown; McAloons Knockatallon; XL Ballinode & Killylough. You can also purchase your Ciste tickets using the Scotstown Clubforce website and clicking on ‘buy event tickets’ link. First prize €1,000 and 5 prizes of €100 must be won. In total €18,000 in prize money is won every year!

Ladies Night in the Social Club in September

There is a social night on Saturday September 9th from 8:00 in the Scotstown GAA Social Club for the Ladies in our community. This event is kindly organised by the Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others.

Health and Wellbeing

Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. We recently had nutritional talks for our U13 to U16 boys and girls’ players and parents. As we now enter the summer months and the football is up and running, we will be implementing Healthy initiatives soon and will update everyone as these happen.

Scotstown GAA Golf Classic

The 2023 Scotstown GAA Golf Classic is on in Rossmore Golf Club on Friday 1st September and Saturday 2nd September. Team of 4 with 3 course Dinner €200. Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others

Gaelic For Mothers & others continues every Wednesday evening at 8.30pm in Kilmore. All welcome to come along. Great way to meet new ladies and catch up with a bit of fun. As there is no competition for the group there is no pressure to attend every week. You can join in at any stage and come when it suits you. You need to be over 25 and living in the parish. Why not come all and give it a go!! Coming up in September party night in the Social Club!

There are Scór senior events happening in September. The Acorn Life Monaghan County GAA Scór Sinsir Stage events take place on Friday 22nd September in Tullycorbet and the quiz takes place on Thursday 21st September.
