Under 17 Division 4 League Final – Scotstown 1-16 Monaghan Harps 4-4
A massive congratulations to the Under 17 Scotstown B team and management in an amazing Division 4 League Cup win against Monaghan Harps in an epic final in Éire Óg Smithborough on Saturday last. Monaghan Harps started strongly and were leading by 1-1 to 0-0 after 7 minutes. Scotstown found their rhythm and after 22 minutes levelled the score with 4 superb points, 3 from Cathal McElwain and 1 from Eoin Prunty. However Monaghan Harps quickly responded to the Scotstown pressure with a second goal before Scotstown levelled the game again after 28 minutes with 3 further well placed points, 1 each from Dean Mulligan, Darragh Keenan and Cathal McElwain. However, Monaghan Harps took the initiative again and took a 4 point lead into the half time break with a 3rd goal and a point and a half time score of Scotstown 0-7 Monaghan Harps 3-2. Monaghan Harps continued their strong play into the start of the second half with another goal in the first minute increasing their advantage to 7 points. The Blues dug deep and produced an amazing comeback to level the score at 0-14 to 4-2 after 20 minutes, with superb points by Cathal McElwain (2), Ellis Foy (2), Darragh Keenan, Joe Foley and Conn Deery. Monaghan Harps quickly responded to restore their lead with a point, but Scotstown levelled again with a superb point by Conn Deery, before the Blues took the lead for the first time with 2 minutes to go with another brilliant point by Cathal McElwain. Into injury time Monaghan Harps equalised, however Ellis Foy secured the League cup with an excellent goal shortly after. Monaghan Harps pressed for the equaliser but Scotstown held their nerve and defended well and the game finished Scotstown 1-16 Monaghan Harps 4-4. Well done to the team and management on an excellent league campaign and final and congratulations on winning the Under 17 Division 4 League Cup. Hard luck and commiserations to Monaghan Harps. 2023 Monaghan Club Men’s Football Championship
The 2023 Monaghan Club Championships commenced last weekend. There was mixed fortune for our championship teams. Our Junior men travelled to Blackhill GAA to play Oram in Round 1 of the Eurotech Junior Championship Group 2 game. The Blues made an impressive comeback from 5 points down and 16 minutes remaining at Oram 2-5 to Scotstown 0-6 including a superb goal and point by Ryan Caulfield, well placed free by Ruairi Sheehan and an outstanding winning point by Nicholas Sherlock securing the win for Scotstown with a score of 1-9 to 2-5. Scorers for Scotstown in the first half included Ruairi Sheehan (0-2); Nicholas Sherlock (0-2), Cian Mohan and Conor McPhillips. Well done to the team and Management. They next play Tyholland at home this Sunday at 2:00pm. Our Senior Men played Inniskeen away on Sunday last in Round 1 of the Greenfield Foods Senior Championship Group 2 game. Hard luck to the lads in their 1-11 to 0-12 points defeat. Scorers for Scotstown on the day included Rory Beggan (0-4, 2 from play); Jack McCarron (0-3); Shane Carey (0-2); Michael McCarville (0-2) and Kieran Hughes (0-1). Our Senior Men next play Magheracloone at home the weekend after next. The Fixture and results for the Championships are; In the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship, our senior men drew Donaghmoyne, Inniskeen, Clontibret and Magheracloone and are in Group 2. The fixtures are; Sunday 13th August away to Inniskeen (L 0-12 to 1-11); Sunday 27th August home to Magheracloone at 2:00pm; Saturday 9th September away to Donaghmoyne at 3:00pm; Sunday 17th September home to Clontibret at 5:00pm.
In the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship, our Junior Men drew Tyholland, Killeevan, Oram and Rockcorry and are in Group 2. The fixtures are; Friday 11th August away to Oram (W 1-9 to 2-5); Sunday 20th August home to Tyholland at 2:00pm; Saturday 26th August away to Rockcorry at 3:30; and Saturday 16th September home to Killeevan at 5:30pm. We wish the players and management on both teams all the best in this year’s Championships.

Our Under 13 boys’ teams had no games in the past week. Our Scotstown A team next play Monaghan Harps away in the Under 13 Division 1 Cup Competition Group A Round 3 game on Saturday August 19th at 11:00am. The Under 13 Scotstown B team next play Clontibret away in the Under 13 Division 5 Cup Competition Group B Round 3 game on Sunday August 20th at 11:00am. The Scotstown C team next play Magheracloone at home in the Under 13 Division 5 Cup Competition Group B Round 3 game on Saturday August 19th at 12:00pm.
Under 15s
Our Under 15 boys’ teams had no games in the past week. The 2023 Under 15 Championship commences this week. The Scotstown A team were drawn in the U15 Division 1 Group 2 along with Donaghmoyne, Killanny, and Magheracloone. The Scotstown A team first game is against Donaghmoyne away this Thursday 17th August in Round 1 of the Under 15 Championship Division 1 Group 2 at 7:00pm. The Scotstown B team were drawn in the U15 Division 5B Group 2 along with Aughnamullen and Corduff. The top 2 teams from the groups qualify for the Semi Finals for each division. The Scotstown B team first game is against Corduff away this Friday 18th August in Round 1 of the Under 15 Championship Division 5B Group 2 at 7:00pm. We wish the teams and management the very best in their championship campaign.
Under 17s
Well done to our Scotstown A team in their 9-16 to 2-12 win against Killanny at home on Tuesday of last week in the U17 Division 1 League Round 2 game. The Minors played Castleblayney on Monday last in Round 3 of the league which was the final game of the Round Robin stage. Well done in their thrilling 5-16 to 5-16 draw in an epic minors game and making an amazing comeback from 9 points down in the second half securing the top spot on the Division 1 league table. They next play Emyvale at home in the Semi Final of the Under 17 Division 1 League next Monday 21st August at 7:00pm. Our Under 17 Scotstown B Team defeated Monaghan Harps in the Final of the Under 17 Division 4 League on Saturday last. Please see report above. They next play in the Championship.
Junior Division 3B Reserves
Our Division 3B Reserves played their final round robin game in the Division 3B reserve league on Saturday last. Well done in their 1-12 to 2-5 win over Monaghan Harps at home in Round 10 of the Reserve League Football Division 3B, and to finish top of the Division 3B reserve league table. They have qualified for the final and play either Latton or Truagh which takes place during weekend of the 8th September.
Senior Ladies Championship started this weekend!
The Scotstown Ladies had no games in the past week. The Scotstown Ladies are playing in the Senior Championship and are in Group A along with O’Neill Shamrocks, Emyvale and Corduff. Their first game is against Corduff at home in Round 1 this Saturday 19th August at 6:30pm. We wish the Ladies team and management the very best.
Under 18 Girls
Well done to our Under 18 girls in their exciting 3-17 to 6-6 win against Magheracloone at home in Round 5 of the Under 18 girls Division 1 League on Thursday of last week. They next play O’Neill Shamrocks away in Round 6 of the Under 18 girls Division 1 League on Thursday 107th August at 7:00pm.
Under 16 Girls
Well done to our Under 16 Scotstown A girls in their win against Aughnamullen away in the U16 Division 1 league 2nd place playoff on Monday last. They next play Tyholland away in the U16 Division 1 League Semi Final next week.
Under 14 Girls
Hard luck to our Under 14 Scotstown A girls in their defeat to Castleblayney at home in Round 3 of the U14 Division 1 league on Wednesday of last week. The Under 14 Scotstown A team next played Sean McDermotts away on Monday last in the Under 14 Division 1 League Round 2 game. Well done on their win.
Under 12 Girls
Well done to our Under 12 Scotstown A girls team in their win over Monaghan Harps at home on Friday evening last in Round 3 of the Under 12 Division 2 league.

There is a social night on Saturday September 9th from 8:00 in the Scotstown GAA Social Club for the Ladies in our community. This event is kindly organised by the Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others.
Health and Wellbeing
Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. We recently had nutritional talks for our U13 to U16 boys and girls’ players and parents. As we now enter the summer months and the football is up and running, we will be implementing Healthy initiatives soon and will update everyone as these happen.
Scotstown GAA Golf Classic
The 2023 Scotstown GAA Golf Classic is on in Rossmore Golf Club on Friday 1st September and Saturday 2nd September. Team of 4 with 3 course Dinner €200. Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others
Gaelic For Mothers & others continues every Wednesday evening at 8.30pm in Kilmore. All welcome to come along. Great way to meet new ladies and catch up with a bit of fun. As there is no competition for the group there is no pressure to attend every week. You can join in at any stage and come when it suits you. You need to be over 25 and living in the parish.
