Intermediate League

We travelled to Doohamlet last Saturday evening for our last regulation match in the Intermediate league. We made a bright start and were 0-03 to 0-01 up after 12 mins. Eddie Walsh then found the back of the Doohamlet net after 13 mins and two more scores from Michael Vernon & Eddie Walsh has us 5 points to the good after 22 mins. Conaill Marry then hit a great score sandwiched between a couple of Doohamlet points to leave the half-time score 1-06 to 0-05. However, Doohamlet came back into it immediately following the restart with a goal of their own. Killian Collins responded with a good score before Stephen McMahon floated one over to cancel out a Doohamlet response. Disaster struck then when goalkeeper Kian Duffy received his marching orders in the 42nd minute for an off-the-ball incident and although Conor Grimes was a willing and able replacement in the net, his first job was to retrieve the ball out of the back of the goal off the fist of the Doohamlet full forward. We responded immediately though through Killian Collins who got on the end of a great through ball to slide it under the advancing Doohamlet keeper and restore our 2-point lead with only 7 mins to play. Doohamlet stuck to their task though and we got turned over on a couple of attacks which otherwise could have closed the game out for us and they got 2 late points to salvage a draw at 2-08 to 2-08.

As a result, our 7th place finish has us in a relegation play-off against Sean McDermotts in 2 weeks – a win sees us safe, but a defeat would put us into a relegation final to see who drops down to Junior for 2023 – the game is currently fixed for Tuesday 25th July in Killanny.

Reserves

Our B’s suffered another defeat this week away to Inniskeen on Tuesday evening last in Div 1B – final score Inniskeen 0-12, Killanny 0-07. Our last match in this competition is away to Corduff on Tuesday 18th July

U-15’s

Our Div 5B team had a great win over Clontibret in Killanny on Friday evening last, 9-11 to 3-08. Next up they play Latton away on Friday 14th July at 7.30pm

Monaghan Minors

Hard luck to Tomas, Conor & Sean and the Monaghan Minor squad who fought hard in the All-Ireland Final against Derry last weekend. Unfortunately they came up against a very impressive Derry side who had been dominant all year. A great achievement nonetheless and great signs for the future of Monaghan football!

Monaghan Seniors

Best of luck to Vinny & the Monaghan Senior squad in their All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin this Saturday 15th July. Dare to dream!!

Condolences

The Club would like to pass on our condolences to Kathleen, Shane, Peter & Paula and the extended Dooley family & many friends of the late Peadar Dooley who passed away last week. Peadar was a staunch GAA fan and avid follower of Killanny and Monaghan teams of all grades his whole life and will be missed on the sidelines. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
