Intermediate League

We made the trip to Emyvale last Friday evening and playing into a slight breeze, started the match on the front foot but what has become a bit of a bad habit recently is our inability to convert possession in to scores on the board, and this was evident again with six wides inside the first 15 mins. It was Emyvale who opened the scoring from a free after 2 minutes, but it was all of 10 minutes later before we got a response, when Oisin Burns raced through on goal only to see his shot on goal rise sharply over the bar with the net at his mercy. Emyvale were ultra defensive with 15 men behind the ball and not offering much in attack and it wasn’t until the 19th minute until the next score arrived, a Danny Leegan free putting us 2-1 up.

Just before the break then a big moment in the game came when Danny Leegan jinked in behind the Emyvale defence and got pulled down in the box for a penalty. Danny gathered himself well enough though to dispatch the penalty high into the Emyvale net and put us 1-02 to 0-02 up. The home side tagged on another free just on the stroke of halftime to send us in two points up.

From the restart, Emyvale hit the first score of the second half but a Killian Collins effort cancelled this out. This score came in the 39th minute and incredibly it was to be our last score of the match. Emyvale were maintaining their rigid defensive system but were able to break away on the counter attack and pick off some good scores in the second half. Despite a number of substitutions mid-way through the half we were unable to get into any real rhythm with too many turnovers, lost possessions and a handful of wides being the sum total of our second half efforts. However, a single point from play in the whole of the second half is certainly not good enough and some improvement is needed before our next match. Final score Emyvale 0-09, Killanny 1-03

With only two games remaining in the league we will need at least two points to keep ourselves out of the bottom four and a relegation scrap.

Monaghan Seniors

A defeat against Donegal on Saturday last means Monaghan finished third in the group and ended up in the 3rd place play-off pot where we drew Kildare away. All the best to Vinny & team in Tullamore this Saturday.

Killanny Ladies

Well done to all our coaches who took part in their Level 1 practical in Killanny on Saturday morning last. A big thanks to the instructors for their delivery of the course and all the girls who helped with the on-field session.

Gaelic for Mothers and Others

Ladies, have you ever heard of Gaelic for Mothers and Others?? We are reviving the G4M&O team in Killanny and would love you to join us. Registration & Training will begin on Friday June 23rd at 7.30pm at the Killanny Geraldine’s pitch. Cost is €37 to cover player insurance and registration with LGFA. All blitzes and games arranged are non-competitive and no scores are kept – it is genuinely about learning a new skill, with lots of good craic to be had along the way. Really hope to see you there!!

Appreciation

We would like to say a huge thanks to Eugene & Kieran for putting together the new juvenile goals for the ladies GAA last week – thanks also to Adam for helping out around the pitch !
