All Ireland Senior County Football Championship Group Stages – Round 2 Result – Monaghan 1-23 Clare 1-18
Monaghan faced the Munster Championship runners up Clare on a hot summers day in Clones on Sunday last. Well done to the Senior Monaghan County team and management in a superb 1-23 to 1-18 win in Round 2 of the All Ireland Group stages. The game was an entertaining high scoring encounter with Clare leading several times throughout the first three quarters before Monaghan took the decisive advantage with an excellent goal from Conor McCarthy. Well done to Jack McCarron who was top scorer with 9 superb points (1 from free) and to all our other Blues who played, Rory Beggan (0-1, from 45), Shane Carey, Darren Hughes, Kieran Hughes, Conor McCarthy (1-2), and Ryan O’Toole (0-1). They next play Donegal in Round 3 of Group 4 on weekend of 17th June. Time and venue TBC.
Monaghan were drawn as 3rd seeds in Group 4 along with the Ulster Champions Derry, the Munster runners up Clare and Donegal. Monaghan play 3 games, with the first on Saturday 27th May away to Derry in Celtic Park which finished in a draw 0-14 all and each team earned 1 point in the group. On Sunday June 4th Monaghan beat Clare 1-23 to 1-18 and the last group game is on weekend of 17th June against Donegal at a neutral venue. The top three in each group advance to the knockout stages; first-place teams to the All-Ireland quarter-finals, and second- and third-placed teams to the preliminary quarter-finals. The four second-placed teams play against the third-placed teams in the preliminary quarter-finals. The winners of the preliminary quarter-finals advance to play the group winners in the All-Ireland quarter-finals. Two semi-finals and a final follow. All matches are knock-out. Monaghan are currently top of Group D with the same points (3) and points difference (+5) as Derry, but have scored more points. Monaghan have guaranteed a place in at least the preliminary round.

Health and Wellbeing
Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. We recently had nutritional talks for our U13 to U16 boys and girls’ players and parents. As we now enter the summer months and the football is up and running, we will be implementing Healthy initiatives soon and will update everyone as these happen.
Mental Health Awareness
While summer and lots of football lift our spirits and emotional wellbeing, mental health issues and trauma can remain, and this can still be a difficult time for many people for several reasons. Please see our Social Media posts for helpful numbers and contacts. There is help out there for those who are struggling during this time. Considerably linked to mental health is the need to raise awareness of the ongoing struggles against violence including domestic violence, and to breakdown the stigma victims have in seeking help and support. Help and support is there for those suffering under physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
Organisations and contact numbers for both women and men are listed below and contact numbers for local mental health supports are featured on the Social Media posts, and has stated by the Ulster GAA last week “we encourage and support anyone who has been a victim of such abuse not to suffer in silence but to avail of the statutory and voluntary support services that are available in the community.”
