Doohamlet Club Notes 01.06.2023

By Majella Boyd Wed 31st May

Doohamlet G.F.C. senior team played their first game on the new field on Sunday last on what was a glorious day for the occasion. Doohamlet G.F.C. wishes to thank the numerous volunteers who helped to get the field to this level of the development over this past number of years and to thank all those who contributed to the various fundraising events during this periodIt is such a wonderful achievement for such a small club, however, there is still a lot more work to do in the coming years and we know that this community will continue to support the on-going development of this project which will be of great benefit to everyone in our community.

The occasion, however, was tinged with sadness by the absence of two stalwarts of the club, Mickey Mc Eneaney and Eamonn Connolly.  Both men would have been so proud to see the first game being played on the new field.

Doohamlet G.F.C. Results:  Our senior team played their first game in the new field on Sunday last against Sean Mc Dermotts in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League Round 5.  Seans opened the scoring but minutes later Barry Mc Bennett got his first point of many during the game, the teams traded scores in the first quarter with Colin Walshe and Barry Mc Bennett getting a point each, Doohamlet took the lead with Barry Mc Bennett converting two frees and Barry Mc Ginn a point from play, leaving the score at half-time Doohamlet 0-6 Sean Mc Dermotts 0-3.  Hugh Mc Ginn opens the second half with a point from play, however, Seans scores a goal to bring them right back into the game with just a point between the sides. Doohamlet steps up their game and with a point from Barry Mc Ginn and Captain Barry Mc Bennett hitting another two we stretch the lead once again.  Doohamlet takes control of the game from here on and with a point from Barry Mc Ginn and three more from Barry Mc Bennett and another from Colin Walshe see the team settle well into the game.  Jack Mc Elroy replaces Ciaran Markey and Kevin Mc Ardle replaces David Mc Ginn.  Barry Mc Bennett converts two more frees bringing his tally of the game to eleven points, enough to win any game on its own.  Aidan Marray replaces Mark Burns.  The final score of the afternoon was Doohamlet 0-17 Sean Mc Dermotts 1-08.  Well done to the team and management, this was a great win on this special day.  Team: James Casey, Mark Burns, Connor Marray, Jason Mc Elroy, David Mc Ginn, Sean Markey, Damien Ward, Eoin Markey, Barry Mc Bennett (0-11) Barry Mc Ginn (0- 3) Hugh Mc Ginn (0-1) Ciaran Markey, Colin Walshe (0-2) Oisin O Neill.  Subs used: Jack Mc Elroy, Kevin Mc Ardle, Aidan Marray, and Dylan Mc Kenna.
