Down Memory Lane:
The recent reprinting of the Corduff Calling book by Corduff Raferagh Community Centre brought some interesting facts to light. In an article penned by Gene McKenna it stated that Corduff affiliated a Senior Football team in April 1923. Did you know Corduff had a Senior team back 100 years ago in 1923? Corduff played their first Senior League match in Umerafree on April 29th 1932 with Killanny being their opponents. The game ended in a draw and the referee’s report stated that the games was of a rough and very scrappy nature as very few players know the rules. As a result the County Board decided to draw up a list of rules to be issued to each club. Corduff’s first game in the Senior Championship was against Donaghmoyne on 2nd August 1923. After a very tough and physical match Corduff won by 5 points. Donaghmoyne lodged an appeal with the County Board on the grounds that Corduff had played an illegal player in the second half. The issue was debated at length and the result stood with Donaghmoyne’s objection failing. If you get a chance the full article in the Corduff Calling book is definitely worth reading!

Corduff regrouped at the interval and from the restart gradually narrowed Magheracloone’s advantage going level 0-8 each mid way through the second half. The remainder of the half saw the sides go level on 3 more occasions ending with a draw by the final whistle taking extra time to separate the sides. The Mitchells dominated the first period of ET but Corduff took control of the second period winning by a margin of 5 points on a final score of 1-19 to 1-14. Congratulations to team and management on this win.
