Seniors: On Wednesday evening last our Senior team recorded a historic 2-15 to 0-15 win away to Scotstown in the league, which was their first of the campaign. The lads got off to the perfect start, rushing into a 1-03 to 0-00 lead after 10 minutes, with the goal coming from an inspired Keith Sheridan. The game ebbed and flowed from here until the break, with both sides exchanging scores before Scotstown clawed our lead back to just a signle point at half time on a scoreline of 1-06 to 0-08. Aughnamullen pushed further ahead at the start if the second half, with Colin Clerkin finding the net to push our lead to seven points. A resolute defense ensured that Scotstown couldn’t find their yupway back, with the boys maintaining a healthy lead for the remainder of the game. The host’s best chance came from a penalty, which was saved by Thomas Marron in goal. At one point in the second half, the boys were nine points up and in the end ran out six point winners to claim a valuable first win of the season. They will be hoping to build on this result this Friday evening, when they take on Donaghmoyne at 8pm in Aughnamullen. Best of luck to the team and management, all support welcome.
Reserves: Our reserves played at home to Donaghmoyne in the quarter Final of the O’Duffy Cup Reserve Championship on Saturday evening, where they were beaten on a scoreline of 3-15 to 2-05. Despite getting off to a strong start, going 1-01 to no score up in the first 5 minutes of the game, the lads were fighting an uphill battle for the remainder of the game. Donaghmoyne came back strong
with a goal of their own, however Aughnamullen still kept in front until the 15th minute. It was from this point where Donaghmoyne took full control of the game, scoring 2-04 without reply to go in at the break ahead on a scoreline of 3-05 to 1-03. The lads could never truly recover from this passage, and the visitors built on their lead with a further two points after the break. From here, the closest Aughnamullen could get was 7 points away, with Donaghmoyne finishing out the game five unanswered points to run out comfortable winners. This result brings an end to our Reserve’s championship journey. They were next fixed to Castleblayney in the league on Wednesday, however this game was conceded. Their next game in the league is at home to Inniskeen next Friday the 2nd of June at 8pm. Come out and support the lads, best of luck to the team and management.
