All Ireland Senior County Football Championship Group Stages
The draw for the All Ireland Senior Football Championship Group stages has been made. Monaghan were drawn as 3rd seeds in Group D along with the Ulster Champions (either Armagh or Derry), the Munster runners up Clare and Donegal. Monaghan will play 3 games, with the first on weekend of 27th May away to the Ulster Champions. A week later on weekend of 3rd June Monaghan are at home to Clare and the last group game is on weekend of 17th June against Donegal at a neutral venue. The top three in each group advance to the knockout stages; first-place teams to the All-Ireland quarter-finals, and second- and third-placed teams to the preliminary quarter-finals. The four second-placed teams play against the third-placed teams in the preliminary quarter-finals. The winners of the preliminary quarter-finals advance to play the group winners in the All-Ireland quarter-finals. Two semi-finals and a final follow. All matches are knock-out. Under 13s
Our Under 13 Boys had no games in the past week. The Under 13 teams’ next game is on Saturday May 13th in Round 2 of the Under 13 league. The Scotstown A team play Magheracloone away in Division 1 at 11:00am. The Scotstown B team play Clontibret at home in Division 2 at 11:00am. The Scotstown C team play Magheracloone away in Division 5 at 12:30pm and the Scotstown D team play Inniskeen away in Division 6 at 2:30pm.
Under 15s
Well done to our Under 15 Division 1 boys in their superb 3-11 to 2-7 to Castleblayney away in Round 4 of the U15 Division 1 League on Thursday last. They next play Killanny at home in Round 6 of the U15 Football League Division 1 Round game in Páirc Mhuire this Thursday May 11th at 7:30pm.
Hard luck to our Under 15 Division 5A boys in their 3-11 to 1-12 away defeat to Castleblayney in Round 5 of the U15 Division 5A League on Friday last. They next play Truagh at home in Páirc Mhuire in Round 5 of the U15 Football Division 5A league this Friday May 5th at 7:30pm.
Under 18s
Well done to our U18 Division 1 boys in their brilliant 5-12 to 1-7 win against Castleblayney at home in Round 2 of the U18 Division 1 on Friday of last week. They next play Clontibret away this Tuesday 9th May in Round 6 at 7:30pm. Well done to our Under 18 Division 3 boys in their 5-13 to 1-3 win against Na Mullai Sarsfields in the U18 Division 3 Round 7 game on Tuesday of last week. They played our neighbours Truagh away on Saturday last in Round 8. Well done to our Minor Blues in their 1-10 to 1-3 win. They next play Óglaigh Naomh Buach at home next Monday 15th May in Round 9 at 7:30pm
McKeown Cup
Our Junior reserves next play Killeevan away in the Quarter Final of the McKeown Cup on Sunday 21st May at 2:00pm.
Senior Division 1A Reserves
Our Senior 1A Reserves had no games in the past week. They next play Truagh at home on Wednesday 10th May at 7:45pm in the Round 4 Platinum Tanks Reserve League Football Division 1A game.
Junior Division 3A Reserves
Hard luck to our Division 3A reserves in their 3-9 to 1-10 defeat to Castleblayney away on Wednesday last in Round 4 of the Platinum Tanks Reserve League Football Division 3A. They next play Truagh away on Wednesday 17th May at 8:00 in Round 5.
Junior Division 3B Reserves
Our Junior 3B Reserves had no games in the past week. They next play Killanny away in Round 3 on Sunday 14th May at 12:30pm.
Senior Men League
Our Senior Men played Corduff away on Monday last in round 3 of the Senior League. Hard luck to the lads in their 2-12 to 1-12 defeat. The Senior men next play Aughnamullen at home on Wednesday 17th May at 8:00pm in Round 4.
Junior Men’s League
Our Junior Men had no games in the past week. As a mark of respect on the death of John Heaphey the Junior League match between Currin and Scotstown scheduled for Sunday last was postponed.
Senior Ladies
Our Senior Ladies had no games in the past week. They next play Killanny away in Round 7 of the Senior Ladies Reserve League Division 2 on Sunday 14th May at 11:00am.
Under 18 Girls
Our Under 18 girls commenced their 2023 competitive campaign last week. Well done to our Under 18 Division 1 team in their win against Emmett Og away on Thursday last in Round 1 of the Under 18 league Division 1. They next play Aughnamullen at home in Round 3 of the Under 18 girls Division 1 League on Thursday 29th June at 7:30pm.

Our Under 16 girls had no games in the past week. Our Under 16 Division 1 next play Castleblayney at home in Round 6 of the Under 16 girls Division 1 League on Monday 29th May at 7:00pm. Our Under 16 Division 2 girls next play Sean McDermotts at home in Round 4 of the Under 16 girls Division 2 League on Tuesday 16th May at 7:00pm.

Our Under 14 girls had no games in the past week. Our Under 14 Scotstown A girls’ team game against Castleblayney at home on Monday last in Round 3 of the U14 Division 1 League was postponed. They next play O’Neill Shamrocks away in Round 4 of the U14 Division 1 League on Monday 22nd May at 7:00pm. Our Under 14 Scotstown B girls’ next play Killeevan at home in Round 3 of the U14 Division 3A league on Tuesday 9th May at 7:00pm.
Under 12 Girls
Our Under 12 girls commence their 2023 competitive campaign this weekend. Monaghan Minors
Well done to the Monaghan minors in their 0-14 to 0-11 win against Donegal at home in Clones on Saturday last in the Ulster Championship Group A Round 5 game. The Monaghan Minors finished 2nd in Group A and they next play Armagh at home in the Quarter Final this Saturday 13th May in Castleblayney at 1:00pm. All the best to our Blues on the minor panel, Donnchadh Connolly, Darcy Foy, Sean Og McElwain, Max Maguire, Tommy Mallen, and the Monaghan team and management.
Monaghan LGFA Minors
The Monaghan Minor girls finished top of Ulster Minor Championship Tier 1 and next play in the Platinum final on Saturday 20th May at 2:00pm. All the best to our Blues on the panel Katie McCaffrey, Ella McKenna, and Eabha Sherry, and the team and management.
Monaghan U14 Girls – Monaghan win Silver Final!
Congratulations to Brannagh Connolly and the Under 14 Monaghan County players and Management in their Silver final win over down in the Under 14 girls festival of football on Saturday 29th April. The Monaghan girls beat Down 5-9 to 0-7 in the Silver final in Garvaghy. Well done to the girls in their Silver Group A 3 out of 3 wins against Louth, Limerick and Longford in the U14 Championship Series stage 1 on Saturday last.
Referee Recruitment
New referees are needed in Co. Monaghan. The number of games played in the county is increasing every year and there is a shortage of active referees. Anyone interested in refereeing at juvenile level should contact any member of the committee. Training and support will be available to any new referees.

Health and Wellbeing
Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. We recently had nutritional talks for our U13 to U16 boys and girls’ players and parents. As we now enter the summer months and the football is up and running, we will be implementing Healthy initiatives soon and will update everyone as these happen.
Gráinne McElwain presents a documentary
A documentary about the GAA and the Civil War from Ballinode’s Gráinne McElwain; the programme will air on RTE 1 this Thursday night 11th May at 10.15pm. In a new one-hour Irish language factual documentary for RTÉ, Gráinne McElwain explores how the GAA across Ireland helped to heal and bridge the bitter divisions created by the Civil War 100 years ago.
Our Condolences
It with great sadness that our club learned that our great friend John Heaphey has died. John was a life long supporter and member of our club, and member of Cairde naBotha, and a great ambassador for Monaghan GAA through his many other roles and responsibilities John diligently dedicated to the county. John’s sons, Orin, Alan and Colin all played with Scotstown GAA, and Orin is currently on our Senior team.
We would like to pass on our sympathy and deepest condolences to his beloved wife Gerardine (Ger), sons Colin, Alan and Orin, daughter-in-law Sarah and his treasured grand-daughter, his sisters Helen (Ballybunion), Marie (Killorglin), Noreen (Abbeyfeale) and Catríona (Spain), his sister-in-law Anne (Ballylongford), brothers-in-law Tom and Leonard, his nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours, dear and loyal friends, teaching companions and his many GAA colleagues throughout Ireland, especially in Monaghan and Kerry and Scotstown GAA.
