Vote for Mary McElroy from Emyvale, Co Monaghan- Health Care Worker in running for prestigious ‘Health Heroes Award’ A Dungannon healthcare worker has been nominated for a prestigious national award for her hard work and commitment to delivering exceptional work in health and social care.

Healthcare support worker Mary McElroy of Southern Health and Social Care Trust (SHSCT), Dungannon, Co Tyrone is in the running to scoop the prize in the Operational Support Worker of the Year award category at the upcoming Our Health Heroes Awards, delivered by Skills for Health.

Following hundreds of nominations and an in-depth judging process Mary’s nomination by Shane Fearon the Professional Social Work Lead stood out to the panel across the scoring criteria.

Described as “an integral cog in the integrated community health team” by her colleagues, Mary’s wealth of knowledge is unparalleled and “she often has the answer to the question before you even know you need it and is always two steps ahead,” states Shane Fearon the professional Social Work Lead.

Integrated community teams (ICTs) bring together community nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and more to work as one and serve the local area. Mary plays a vital role in ensuring that clinical staff can do their jobs and ensure that patients receive the best possible care.

She is constantly making process improvements within the team and has invested a significant amount of time in training social work staff. Due to her work, Mary’s team is one of the highest performing older persons social work teams in the region.

“In everything she does, Mary, is an excellent representative of the SHSCT, upholding all our core values: openness and honesty, excellence, compassion and working together,” adds Shane Fearon nominating Mary for the award.

“At times the administrative roles can be undervalued, but here in Dungannon the social work team all hold Mary in high regards for all she does to keep the train on the tracks and feel she is a more than worthy candidate for nomination.”
