The Brendan Finnegan Memorial Tournament:
From early last week people from the Corduff and Raferagh area and beyond began to descend on Schiphol airport in Amsterdam for the Brendan Finnegan Memorial Tournament. In all 150 people from the area spent the weekend in Amsterdam and what a weekend it was! There was the Corduff Gaels Senior team which flew in from Lanzarote plus the Corduff Ladies Senior team and of course the Legands team plus supporters and members of the Finnegan family.
The Tournament took place on Saturday at the Sportpark Eendracht venue. Each Corduff team played an Amsterdam team. First up was the Legends game which certainly entertained the travelling supporters. However it was the Amsterdam Legends which won that match. Next up were the Ladies and this time Corduff Ladies were victorious. And the final match of the day was won by Corduff Gaels Senior men making it 2 out of 3 for Corduff.
At the presentation Seamus Finnegan spoke on behalf of the Finnegan Family stating it meant alot to the family that so many people had come together to pay tribute to Brendan, to celebrate his love of his native club Corduff Gaels, his adopted Club Amsterdam and the GAA. Brendan’s son Milan presented the cup to the winning captains with Corduff the overall winners of the Brendan Finnegan Memorial Tournament.
The travelling contingent had a fantastic weekend in the city and massive thanks is extended to all involved with organizing the Tournament especially George, David and Darren with special thanks to Amsterdam GAC for hosting Corduff. While there are many people to thank, massive thanks is extended to Ciarán Marron who sponsored dinner and drinks for both teams and committee members on the Friday night. Also thanks is extended to Raymond and Farney Print for sponsoring the banner. To everyone else involved including the musical acts a massive thank you is extended to one and all. The curtain may have come down on the tournament but Brendan’s memories still live on.
