Doohamlet Club Notes 05.01.2023

By Majella Boyd Sat 14th Jan

Condolences:   It was with great sadness when the football community and the community at large learned of the death of the late Eamonn Connolly on Monday 26th Dec 2022.  Although Eamonn was sick for a short period of time, the news of his death came as a shock to all of us.  Eamonn had been an active member of our club since the club was reformed in 1969.  He was the winning captain of the victorious 1974 junior championship winning team.  Eamonn’s input and time spent at our club were beyond measure. Eamonn held many a position in our club including that of Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Groundsman, and many other jobs behind the scenes.  He also managed teams at all levels down through the years and was also on hand on match days to do linesman, umpire, or whatever position was needed on the day.  Eamonn’s pride and joy was making sure the field was in tip-top shape at all times.  He was involved in the purchase of the existing football pitch and the new field which is currently under development.  Doohamlet G.F.C would not be where it is today if it wasn’t for Eamonn and the countless unpaid hours that he spent around our club.

Eamonn oversaw our Fás Scheme for many years and was deeply involved in the community at large being involved with the hall committee, tidy villages, and many other committees.

Eamonn left a wonderful legacy behind him and the greatest tribute that we the people of Doohamlet could pay him is to carry on in his footsteps.

The club formed a guard of honor on the evening of the 26th of December when Eamonn’s remains traveled to the football field and  on the morning of the funeral mass.

Eamonn is pre-deceased by his wife Sally in January 2020.  We at Doohamlet G.F.C.  express our heartfelt sympathy to his children Paul, Elaine, Enda, Derek, and Darren, his brothers and sisters, grandchildren, and extended families.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

Congratulations to Ciarán Markey who has been selected for this year’s U20 County panel.  We wish himhis teammates, and management every success for the season ahead.
