Coach Education & Club Development Update

Monaghan Coaching & Games staff having been busy over the past number of months delivering a number of Fondation & Award 1 Coach Education courses in both Football & Hurling.

The Foundation course is the first step on the GAA Coaching Pathway. These courses saw coaches complete the theory elements online in their own time before attending a practical session. These session were held over a number of weeks in February.

In total, 70 coaches from 21 clubs completed the Football Foundation course and 16 coaches from 4 clubs completed the Hurling Foundation course. Monaghan Coaching and Games would like to thank Cremartin GAA, Carrick Emmets GFC and Entekra Monaghan GAA Centre of Excellence for hosting the courses.

We would also like to thank all the coaches who participated on the courses as well as the excellent tutors Cillian Cromwell, Macartan McKenna and Oisin MacManus for delivering the courses.

We hosted two Award 1 Football courses in January and March. These courses consisted of an online webinar on the Friday evening and a mixture of practical and theory modules delivered in person on the Saturday. In total, 50 coaches from 18 clubs completed the Award 1 Football courses. We would like to thank St. Macartans College for the use of their excellent facilities for both courses. We would also like to thank the tutors Paul O’Connor, Colin Malone, Macartan McKenna & Eamon O’Hara for delivering the courses.

We also hosted an Award 1 Hurling course last Friday & Saturday, 25th & 26th March, this course was run in conjunction with Louth GAA. Like the football course, this consisted of an online webinar on the Friday evening with a mixture of practical and theory modules delivered in person on Saturday at the Entekra Monaghan GAA Centre of Excellence in Cloghan. A total of 16 coaches from 6 clubs in both Monaghan and Louth completed the course. Monaghan Coaching & Games would like to thank Paul O’Connor, Oisin MacManus & Patrick for tutoring the course.

We are hoping to be able to run an Award 2 coaching course in the county later in the year or in early 2023 and we would encourage coaches who have completed the Award 1 course to progress on and complete the Award 2 course.

Club Development Workshops:

During February and March, our Coaching & Games staff delivered 4 Club Development Workshops for club coaches around the county. We organised two workshops for U11 & U13 coaches in St. Macartans College and Patrician High School focusing on Skill Development & Weakside for youth players and how to implement these into a session through small sided games. These workshops were attended by 40 coaches from 18 clubs.

We also hosted two workshops for U7 & U9 coaches at the same venues focusing on Fundamental Movements, Fun Games and Skill Development. These workshops were attended by 63 coaches from 25 clubs.

We would like to thank all the coaches who attended the workshop as well as St. Macartans College & Patrician High School for the use of their excellent facilities.

Any club who is interested in receiving support or assistance from our Coaching & Games staff can contact Paul O’Connor on 0860374827 or developmentmanager.monaghan@gaa.ie
